The morning of the doctor’s appointment dawned quietly, with Mingyu preparing to leave on his own. He had reassured Wonwoo multiple times that it was okay, that he could manage without him, but deep down, he wished Wonwoo could be there.

“It’s just a routine check-up,” Mingyu had said with a smile, standing at the door as Wonwoo adjusted his cufflinks.

Wonwoo hesitated, his dark eyes scanning Mingyu’s face. “I hate that I can’t go with you.”

“You’ve got important work, and I’ll be fine,” Mingyu said, stepping closer to fix Wonwoo’s slightly crooked tie. “Besides, you’re the one who always makes sure I rest and eat. I’m healthy, the baby’s healthy—it’s all good.”

Wonwoo cupped Mingyu’s face gently, his thumb brushing against his cheek. “Call me the second it’s done, okay?”

“I promise.” Mingyu leaned into the touch briefly before waving him off.

---

At the doctor’s office, Mingyu sat nervously in the examination room, his hands resting protectively over his belly. The check-up started like any other—questions about his diet, energy levels, and the baby’s movement. But as the doctor reviewed his test results, her expression grew serious.

“Mingyu,” she began carefully, “there’s a slight concern. Your blood pressure is higher than we’d like, and you’ve shown signs of mild anemia. It’s not critical right now, but it’s something we need to monitor closely. Stress or overexertion could exacerbate it.”

Mingyu’s stomach twisted. He nodded slowly, trying to take it all in. “Is the baby okay?”

“For now, yes,” the doctor reassured him. “But we need to ensure it stays that way. You’ll need to rest more, eat iron-rich foods, and avoid any stressors. I’ll send the detailed report to your husband, and I’d like to see you again next week to follow up.”

---

Later that evening, Mingyu sat on the couch, a blanket draped over his lap. He had planned to tell Wonwoo everything, but when his husband called to check in, he found himself brushing it off instead.

“How was the appointment?” Wonwoo asked over the phone, his deep voice tinged with curiosity.

“Good,” Mingyu replied, forcing cheerfulness into his tone. “The baby’s doing great. Nothing to worry about.”

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Mingyu’s heart skipped a beat. Did Wonwoo suspect something?

“That’s good,” Wonwoo said finally, though his tone had shifted—calm, but with a subtle edge of knowing. “I’ll be home late tonight, but we’ll talk more then.”

“Okay,” Mingyu said softly, ending the call and slumping back against the couch.

---

When Wonwoo returned home that night, Mingyu was already in bed, pretending to be asleep. Wonwoo didn’t disturb him, though his dark eyes lingered on his husband’s peaceful face for a long moment before slipping under the covers beside him.

---

The next morning, Mingyu woke up to the sound of Wonwoo moving about in the kitchen. He shuffled out of bed, finding his husband waiting with breakfast—a plate of spinach omelet, orange juice, and a side of fruit.

“Good morning,” Wonwoo greeted, pulling out a chair for Mingyu.

Mingyu sat down, his brows furrowing. “You’re being unusually doting today.”

“Am I?” Wonwoo asked innocently, sitting across from him.

They ate in silence for a while until Wonwoo finally spoke, his tone calm but firm. “Why didn’t you tell me about the blood pressure and anemia?”

Mingyu froze, his fork halfway to his mouth. “How did you—”

“The doctor called me,” Wonwoo said simply, leaning back in his chair. “Why did you lie to me?”

“I wasn’t lying,” Mingyu mumbled, avoiding his husband’s piercing gaze. “I just… didn’t want you to worry. You already have so much on your plate.”

Wonwoo reached across the table, taking Mingyu’s hand in his. “Nothing is more important to me than you and our baby. If something’s wrong, I need to know, Gyu.”

Mingyu’s shoulders slumped, guilt washing over him. “I didn’t mean to hide it. I just didn’t want to add to your stress.”

Wonwoo squeezed his hand gently. “You’re my husband. We’re in this together. Don’t shut me out, okay?”

Mingyu nodded, his eyes welling up. “Okay. I’m sorry.”

Wonwoo stood and moved to Mingyu’s side, wrapping him in a warm embrace. “No more hiding, alright? We’ll get through this, one step at a time.”

Mingyu leaned into the hug, finding comfort in Wonwoo’s steady presence. Despite the challenges ahead, he knew they would face them together.
