Wonwoo had always been meticulous and calculated, whether it was in his dealings with the underworld or in managing his legitimate businesses. But when it came to Mingyu, especially with the concerns about his health, that meticulousness was paired with unwavering determination.

After the latest doctor’s visit and the concerning test results, Wonwoo decided enough was enough. If the problem persisted despite all the precautions, it meant something was triggering it—and he was going to find out what.

---

The morning after their appointment, Wonwoo presented Mingyu with a sleek smartwatch as they sat down for breakfast.

Mingyu blinked at the box, tilting his head. “What’s this for? You already gave me a watch last year.”

“This one’s different,” Wonwoo said, sitting across from him. “It monitors your heart rate and blood pressure throughout the day. The doctor recommended it.”

Mingyu pouted, poking at the omelet on his plate. “You’re turning me into a walking science project.”

Wonwoo leaned forward, his hand resting on top of Mingyu’s. “Gyu, this isn’t just for you—it’s for the baby, too. Humor me, alright?”

Mingyu sighed but relented, allowing Wonwoo to help him put it on. “Fine. But if I see you obsessing over the numbers, I’m taking it off.”

---

Over the next few days, Wonwoo kept a close eye on Mingyu. He didn’t hover—he knew better than to make Mingyu feel stifled—but his discreet checks of the data synced to his phone gave him insight into his husband’s daily patterns.

By the end of the week, a troubling trend emerged. Mingyu’s blood pressure spiked most noticeably during specific times: mornings when Wonwoo left for the office or missions, and evenings when he was running late.

The realization hit Wonwoo like a freight train. Mingyu wasn’t just dealing with physical stress—it was emotional. The moments when his presence was absent seemed to take the greatest toll.

---

That evening, Wonwoo brought it up as they sat on the couch, Mingyu curled up against his side with a bowl of grapes balanced on his belly.

“Gyu,” Wonwoo began softly, brushing a hand through Mingyu’s hair, “can we talk about something?”

Mingyu hummed, popping a grape into his mouth. “What’s up?”

Wonwoo hesitated before speaking. “I’ve been keeping track of your readings, and I noticed something… consistent.”

Mingyu sat up slightly, his brows furrowing. “What do you mean?”

“Your blood pressure spikes when I’m not around,” Wonwoo said gently, his eyes searching Mingyu’s face. “When I leave for work, when I’m late—it’s like your body reacts to it.”

Mingyu’s lips parted in surprise, and for a moment, he was silent. Then he looked away, his cheeks flushing slightly. “That’s… ridiculous. I’m not a kid, Wonwoo. I can handle being alone.”

Wonwoo reached out, tilting Mingyu’s chin so their eyes met. “I never said you couldn’t. But your body is telling me otherwise.”

Mingyu bit his lip, his fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. “I just… I worry about you, okay? I know what you do isn’t safe, and I hate sitting here wondering if you’re coming back in one piece. And now, with the baby—” He stopped, his voice cracking.

Wonwoo’s heart clenched at the vulnerability in Mingyu’s words. He pulled him into a gentle embrace, his hand resting protectively on Mingyu’s bump. “I’m sorry, Gyu. I didn’t realize how much my work was affecting you. But I promise I’ll do everything I can to make it easier on you.”

Mingyu sniffled against Wonwoo’s chest. “It’s not your fault. I just can’t help it. You’re my whole world, and now our baby is, too. I can’t lose you.”

Wonwoo pressed a kiss to Mingyu’s temple, his own voice thick with emotion. “You won’t. I’ll be here. For both of you. Always.”

---

The next day, Wonwoo made some significant changes to his schedule. He started delegating more of his work and missions to trusted subordinates, ensuring he could be home earlier and more often. When he did need to leave, he made sure Mingyu had company—be it friends, family, or even just extra security to ease his mind.

And though Mingyu teased him for being overprotective, he couldn’t deny the comfort it brought him.

As the days went by, the change was evident in both their lives. Mingyu’s readings improved, his stress lessened, and Wonwoo found a new rhythm in balancing his responsibilities with his growing family.

For Wonwoo, seeing Mingyu smile—truly smile—again made every adjustment worth it.
