Chapter 43: A Workout of Love and Patience
The clanging of weights and soft grunts echoed from the home gym as Wonwoo stood in the doorway, arms crossed, watching Mingyu with an intensity that had nothing to do with admiration of form—though that was definitely part of it.
Mingyu, dressed in a tank top and fitted workout shorts, moved through his reps with effortless grace. Beads of sweat glistened on his skin, his biceps flexing as he finished his set and set the weights down. He grabbed a towel and wiped his face, glancing at Wonwoo with a teasing smile.
“Enjoying the view?” Mingyu asked, his tone playful.
“More than I should be,” Wonwoo admitted, stepping into the room. “Do you even know how distracting you are?”
Mingyu laughed, tossing the towel over his shoulder. “Is that a complaint, Mr. Jeon?”
“Far from it,” Wonwoo replied, wrapping his arms around Mingyu’s waist and pulling him close. “But you’re not making it easy to focus on anything else.”
Mingyu’s grin widened as he leaned into Wonwoo. “Who says you need to focus on anything else?”
Wonwoo didn’t need more encouragement. His lips found Mingyu’s in a heated kiss, his hands tracing the lines of his husband’s toned back. Just as the moment began to deepen, a familiar cry pierced the air, shattering the intimacy like glass.
They froze.
Mingyu pulled back, laughing softly. “Looks like someone doesn’t approve.”
Wonwoo groaned, his head dropping to Mingyu’s shoulder in frustration. “She has the worst timing.”
“She’s a baby, Wonwoo. She doesn’t have a schedule for this kind of thing,” Mingyu said, patting his husband’s back consolingly before pulling away. “Let me go check on her.”
A few minutes later, Mingyu returned to the gym, holding their daughter, Jeon Somi, in his arms. Her little face was still scrunched up from crying, but she quieted as soon as Mingyu kissed her forehead.
“I guess someone wanted to be part of the action,” Mingyu teased, rocking her gently.
Wonwoo’s frustration melted at the sight of his baby girl, her tiny hand reaching out for him. He took her from Mingyu and held her close, her soft coos making his heart swell despite the interruption.
“You’re lucky you’re cute,” Wonwoo murmured, pressing a kiss to Somi’s head.
“She gets it from me,” Mingyu said with a cheeky grin, earning a mock glare from Wonwoo.
Later that evening, as Somi finally drifted off to sleep in her crib, Wonwoo pulled Mingyu into their bedroom.
“You think she’s really out this time?” Wonwoo whispered, his arms wrapping around Mingyu’s waist.
“Should be,” Mingyu replied, leaning into his husband. “Unless she’s planning another surprise.”
Wonwoo smirked, leaning down to kiss Mingyu deeply. “Then we better make the most of this window.”
Just as the kiss began to intensify, a faint whimper came from the baby monitor.
Both froze again.
Mingyu chuckled, resting his forehead against Wonwoo’s. “You’ll have to work on your patience, Mr. Jeon.”
“I’m trying,” Wonwoo grumbled, though a smile tugged at his lips as Mingyu kissed him again, soft and slow.
“Good things come to those who wait,” Mingyu whispered, his voice full of affection.
And for Wonwoo, waiting wasn’t so bad—after all, his family made every moment worth it.
