Chapter 52: Hinting at a Future
Wonwoo wasn’t one to beat around the bush—except, apparently, when it came to Mingyu and the idea of having another baby. Since their conversation about balancing the "daddy's girl" dynamic, he’d made it his mission to drop hints at every possible moment, each one more obvious than the last.
At breakfast, while Mingyu fed Somi her mashed bananas, Wonwoo leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee. “You know,” he began casually, “Somi might enjoy a little sibling to share her toys with.”
Mingyu didn’t even look up. “She doesn’t even play with her toys. She just uses them to hit you.”
“Exactly,” Wonwoo said with a grin. “She could use a partner in crime.”
Mingyu merely raised an eyebrow at him, unimpressed.
Later that day, while they were folding laundry, Wonwoo picked up one of Somi’s tiny onesies and held it up. “Don’t you miss how small she used to be? Imagine having another one of these.”
Mingyu laughed, shaking his head. “Wonwoo, Somi is still small. She’s barely learned to walk. Focus on one baby at a time.”
But the final straw came that evening when they were cuddled up on the couch, Somi asleep in her crib. Wonwoo rested his chin on Mingyu’s shoulder, his voice soft and persuasive. “Don’t you think the house feels a little... empty sometimes?”
Mingyu turned to him, incredulous. “Wonwoo, this house is never empty. Between Somi’s cries, your meetings, and the bodyguards, I barely have a moment to myself.”
Wonwoo frowned, clearly baffled by Mingyu’s dismissive attitude. He’d been sure that Mingyu would warm up to the idea of another baby, but instead, Mingyu was dodging every hint he threw his way.
“Are you... against the idea of having more kids?” Wonwoo finally asked, his tone quieter than usual.
Mingyu sighed, turning to face him fully. “No, I’m not against it,” he admitted. “I just—” He paused, biting his lip. “It’s not that I don’t want more kids, Wonwoo. I’m just... tired right now. Somi is still so little, and she needs so much attention. I’m not ready to split that focus yet.”
Wonwoo’s eyes softened, and he reached out to take Mingyu’s hand. “You could’ve just told me that instead of brushing me off.”
“I didn’t want to hurt your feelings,” Mingyu said with a sheepish smile.
“You could never hurt my feelings,” Wonwoo replied, leaning in to kiss his forehead. “I just want us to be on the same page. If you’re not ready, that’s okay. I’ll wait as long as you need.”
Mingyu smiled, his heart swelling with love for the man in front of him. “Thank you, Wonwoo. And when I’m ready, you’ll be the first to know.”
Wonwoo grinned, pulling him closer. “I’ll hold you to that.”
For now, the hints would stop—but the thought of expanding their family would remain, tucked away in both of their hearts for the future.
