Chapter 50: Morning Sunshine
Wonwoo stirred awake, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains and casting a warm glow over the bedroom. He felt something wet and ticklish on his cheek, followed by a tiny hand patting his nose. Slowly opening his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of his baby girl, Somi, sitting on his chest, her chubby hands reaching out to grab his face.
Her big, sparkling eyes met his, and she let out a delighted squeal. "Dada!" she babbled excitedly before planting another wet, slobbery kiss on his cheek.
Wonwoo couldn’t help but chuckle at the affectionate but messy greeting. “Good morning, princess,” he murmured, his deep, sleep-laden voice making Somi giggle.
She responded with a flurry of enthusiastic pats on his face, her little fingers grabbing at his nose, his lips, and even attempting to tug at his ears. Wonwoo’s heart melted at her pure joy and energy.
He turned his head slightly to the side to see Mingyu sprawled out next to him, fast asleep and completely oblivious to the chaos. His husband’s face was serene, his lips slightly parted as he breathed softly. Wonwoo marveled for a moment at how peaceful and angelic Mingyu looked, even though he knew that when he woke up, his energy and sass would fill the room.
Somi, apparently dissatisfied with the lack of attention from her other parent, glanced at Mingyu before turning back to Wonwoo with a determined look. She babbled something incomprehensible but clearly urgent as if she was giving her father instructions.
“Are you trying to wake Papa up too?” Wonwoo whispered, smiling. “You’re a little troublemaker, aren’t you?”
Somi clapped her hands in response, her toothy grin spreading across her face. Then, leaning forward with all the determination of a toddler on a mission, she gave Wonwoo another wet kiss, this time directly on the tip of his nose.
The adorable attack made Wonwoo laugh softly, careful not to wake Mingyu. He gently picked Somi up, holding her in his arms as she nestled against his chest, her small fingers playing with the collar of his pajama shirt.
“You’re already such a handful,” he murmured affectionately, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “But I wouldn’t trade this for anything.”
Just then, Mingyu stirred slightly, groaning as he turned toward them. His sleepy eyes cracked open, and he smiled faintly at the sight of his husband and daughter snuggled together.
“Morning,” Mingyu mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.
“Morning,” Wonwoo replied, his gaze softening as he looked at him.
Somi, excited to see her Papa awake, started bouncing in Wonwoo’s arms, babbling loudly.
Mingyu laughed, reaching out to stroke her tiny hand. “You’re already causing trouble this early in the morning, huh, Somi?”
Wonwoo smirked. “She gets it from you.”
Mingyu raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue. Instead, he scooted closer, wrapping an arm around Wonwoo and Somi, pulling them both into a warm embrace.
As the three of them lay there, wrapped in each other’s love, Wonwoo couldn’t help but think that mornings like this were the greatest gift of all.
