Chapter 45: Little Moments, Big Love
The days that followed were filled with the kind of family moments that made all the sleepless nights worth it. Somi was growing quickly, her little personality beginning to shine, and every day was an adventure for the small family.
One morning, Wonwoo woke up to soft giggles coming from the nursery. He padded down the hall, quietly pushing open the door to find Mingyu lying on the floor with Somi propped on a pillow in front of him. Mingyu was making silly faces, blowing raspberries, and clapping her tiny hands together. Somi’s laughter was loud and bubbly, filling the room with joy.
“You two seem to be having fun without me,” Wonwoo teased, leaning against the doorframe with a soft smile.
Mingyu looked up, his face lighting up even more. “She laughed for the first time today! Like, really laughed! It was the cutest thing, Wonwoo!”
Somi squealed as if in agreement, her little legs kicking excitedly. Wonwoo walked over, kneeling beside them. He scooped Somi into his arms, planting a kiss on her chubby cheek. “And I missed it? That’s not fair,” he joked, though the warmth in his tone betrayed how much he adored them both.
“Well, if you stick around more, maybe you won’t miss these moments,” Mingyu teased, poking Wonwoo’s arm.
Another day, the three of them decided to have a picnic in the garden. Mingyu packed a basket filled with snacks while Wonwoo set up a blanket under the shade of a large tree. Somi, now able to roll over and hold her head up, lay on her stomach, babbling happily at the rustling leaves above her.
“Look at her,” Mingyu said softly, leaning against Wonwoo as they watched their daughter. “She’s fascinated by everything. The leaves, the wind... It’s like the world is brand new.”
Wonwoo’s arm wrapped around Mingyu’s shoulders, pulling him closer. “She gets that from you,” he said quietly.
Mingyu raised an eyebrow. “Fascination with the world?”
Wonwoo shook his head. “The ability to find beauty in the smallest things. You make everything brighter, Gyu.”
Mingyu’s cheeks turned pink, and he playfully nudged Wonwoo. “Stop being cheesy.”
Wonwoo just smiled, his eyes never leaving his family.
Evenings became their sacred time. After long days of work and parenting, the three of them would gather in the living room. Somi, snug in her baby bouncer, would watch with wide eyes as Mingyu danced around the room to lullabies playing from the speakers. Wonwoo would sit on the couch, his heart swelling as he watched the love of his life twirl their daughter around.
One night, Mingyu scooped up Somi and placed her in Wonwoo’s arms before pulling him up. “Your turn,” he said with a mischievous grin.
Wonwoo groaned. “I don’t dance, Gyu.”
“You do now,” Mingyu declared, pulling him into a gentle sway. With Somi nestled between them, they danced together under the soft glow of the living room lights.
The small family moments continued to fill their days—Somi’s first taste of mashed bananas, her attempt at crawling that turned into a belly flop, and the way she would cling to Mingyu’s shirt whenever he tried to hand her off to someone else.
Wonwoo cherished each moment. Whether it was soothing Somi in the middle of the night or watching Mingyu sing her to sleep, every second felt like a gift. He often found himself silently thanking the universe for the life he had built with Mingyu and the precious little girl who had brought even more light into their world.
And as they tucked Somi into bed one night, Mingyu leaning his head on Wonwoo’s shoulder, Wonwoo knew there was nothing more perfect than these fleeting moments of peace and love.
