The Flames of Revenge
Mayra's POV
I stood at the edge of Vihaan's empire, watching it crumble from a distance. The grand skyscraper that bore his name once felt insurmountable. Now, it was a hollow shell of what it used to be — just like the man who had betrayed me.
Destroying him hadn't been easy. I didn't strike him where he expected. No. I dismantled him from within. His clients? Gone. His suppliers? Ghosted him. His partners? They now worked with me.
I'd spent months weaving a web of chaos, pulling the strings just enough to let him feel the losses. Each business deal he lost was a little victory for me. Each time he tried to salvage a sinking ship, I'd throw another rock at it.
But now, standing in front of his office building, there was no joy in victory. Only emptiness.
The receptionist tried to stop me as I walked past security. I shot her a glare, and she backed down instantly.
My heels echoed in the quiet hallway until I stood before the door with his name on it.
I pushed it open.
Vihaan was standing by the window, staring out at the cityscape. The rain blurred the view, turning the bustling streets into a hazy, indistinct mess. He didn't turn immediately when the door creaked open, but I saw his shoulders tense.
"Mayra," he finally said, his voice low but steady. He didn't move from his spot. "You couldn't stay away, could you?"
I took a few steps forward, my heels clicking against the marble floor. "I came to see the aftermath."
At that, he turned to face me. His eyes, dark and intense, locked onto mine. There was no trace of the confident man I once knew. He looked tired, worn down by the battle he hadn't even realized he was fighting until it was too late.
"You've been busy," he said, a hint of bitterness lacing his words.
I crossed my arms over my chest, leaning against the desk. "Someone had to clean up the mess you left."
His jaw clenched. "Mess? You call this a mess? You destroyed everything. My business, my partnerships, my reputation."
"No," I corrected him, tilting my head. "I didn't destroy it. I simply exposed the cracks that were already there. Your empire was built on lies and manipulation, Vihaan. All I did was accelerate the inevitable."
He took a step closer, his gaze never wavering. "And for what? Revenge? Did it make you feel better? Watching me lose everything?"
I didn't flinch. "It gave me closure."
He laughed, a hollow sound that echoed through the room. "Closure? That's what you call this? You think by tearing me down, you've found peace?"
"Peace?" I shook my head, a bitter smile playing on my lips. "There's no peace in this, Vihaan. There never was. You took something from me that I'll never get back. My trust, my belief in you. You made me believe we were partners. That we were building something together. And that something was my dream for so long, my friend. But all along, you were using me, like I am a fucking toy."
