Chapter 26: Finding My Way Back To You Pt.2

(Caspian's POV) 

I stared at the woman who had my heart and I felt confused, I had so many questions that needed to be answered. Like why she never responded to my letter, did she still feel something for me and the biggest one why was she her? I stepped back a little and said "Riley, what are you doing here? In New York?" She bite her bottom lip and said quietly "I was offered a position in your company by your father. I am over the marketing department now, I am here in New York for good." Riley had a bright smile on her face but I still couldn't help but think her heart was away from me, or maybe it was my heart that moved. I think after waiting a month and no response, I began focusing on my baby girl and now that I've done that it's like my daughter takes first place in my heart and that's exactly what Riley told me she wanted.

I looked at Riley's beautiful dress and hair and said "Wow that's great Riley, you look." Before I could finish complimenting her my buddy Hayden interrupted "Beautiful, you look beautiful." Riley blushed at us both and said "Caspian this is Hayden." I laughed it off and said "I know, Hayden use to be one of my buddies before I moved to California I was the one who hired him when I first got back." Hayden laughed and high five me before putting his hands around her waist. Looking at the two of them I could tell something was up, they had chemistry and maybe she did move on from me. With my life it's to much drama, but Hayden was focused and peaceful and he just might be what she needs....

Riley stepped closer towards me and asked Hayden "Can Caspian and I have a second?" Hayden  nodded his head and walked away from us. Riley instantly turned her attention back to me and said "How have you been? Hows the baby?" I smiled at the thought of telling her about the news, I looked over at Jaceyln who was closely watching and said "It's a girl, I am having a girl. Her due date is December 8th." Riley's eyes lit up with excitement and she had a smile that touched her eyes, she jumped in my arms squeezing me and said "I am so happy for you." I hugged her back and said "Thank you Riley, we will have to get together soon." She nervously smiled and said "I look forward to it." I nodded and walked away as fast as I could, I so desperately wanted to kiss her and dance with her out on the floor and confess all of my feelings but I didn't. I couldn't do that and risked it all without knowing the feelings were reciprocated. 

My father stepped up to the podium and cleared his thought before he began to talk "I would like to get everyone's attention. This night has been filled with dancing, drinking and fellowship but now it's time to get a little serious. As many of you know my eldest son Caspian is taking over the company and after tonight Intercorp will be his. I've have been limited in what I could do for this company but my son can take us to the next level with his creativity and his team behind him. I am excited to see where he takes this company and I have a 100% faith in him and his vision. Caspian will you please come up here with me." Everyone clapped and I walked up the stage and gave my father a hug. My father continued "I also have another announcement to make, as you know my close friend Nathaniel has been working with me for over 20 years. Now I have promoted him to be the second in command next to Caspian." Everyone gasped and clapped for Riley's dad, my father as well. My father continued to speak "Since he will be in a higher position, I have hired Riley Nathaniel's daughter to take his place. Riley will you please come up and join us." Riley gracefully walked up to the stage and stood right next to me, she gazed in my eyes and I gazed in her's. Interrupting the moment my father said "This is the future of our company, Caspian and Riley. Everyone give a round of applause for these two and where they will take us." 

Everyone clapped and yelled for us, Riley was completely ignoring them and keeping her eyes strictly on me. The future of the company they say, to bad it's not the future for us as well. Riley and I walked down the stage hand and hand, and before parting she said "I really have missed you." I smiled at her and said "So did I." I wanted to ask her but before I could Jaceyln rushed to me and said "Come on." I looked at her confused while she was pulling me back up the stage. I walked up there with her and she took the mic and said "As you all know I am Jaceyln and I am pregnant with Caspian's child. Well two months ago we found out that we are having a baby girl and this whole time I've been contemplating about our daughter. I don't just want to have my daughter, I want a family." Jaceyln looked at me and touched the side of my face and said "I want us to be a family, and I know it's not traditional but Caspian will you marry me and give our daughter the family she deserves? Filled with love and happiness?" My jaw dropped in utter shock of what Jaceyln just did and in front of everyone...

I instantly turned around to see the look on Riley's face, it looked like she had seen a ghost. She just stood at the end of the stage paralyzed. I was paralyzed too I didn't want to say no to Jaceyln and embarrass her in front of everyone but I didn't want to say yes and break Riley. I looked over at my mother who was giving me that look, the look that said boy you better say yes or there will be hell to pay. I looked back at Jaceyln and got on one knee and said "No I will not marry you, but will you marry me?" The crowd gasped and Jaceyln quickly said "Yes! Yes I will." She jumped up and down and kissed my cheek. I faked a smile trying to keep up the act, my mother looked at me with approval and walked over to Jaceyln. I walked down the stairs to face Riley, she had tears forming in her eyes and all she said was "Congrats." 

She quickly walked away and I chased after her outside. She was heading towards her limo and I yelled out "Riley wait!" She turned around to face me and said "I am done waiting." She opened the car door revealing Hayden, Nadia, Alex and Jasmine inside. She got inside the car and Jasmine looked at me and said "She came back for you stupid, thanks for showing her you weren't worth it. Let her be now." Before I could defend myself Jasmine slammed the door in my face. I watched as the car drove away and I said to myself "What choice did I have." Riley found her way back to me, and I ruined it. I ruined my chance to have her heart because I was the one who broke it....

Okay guys, I warned you about this chapter! Looks like Jaceyln saw a threat in Riley's return so she eliminated the threat! Caspian now knows why Riley came back and Riley now knows it wasn't worth it. Comment, Comment, Comment your thoughts about the tragic ending for Caspian and Riley's love. Maybe someone else will come and mend Riley's broken heart......
