Am I regretting my live choices? Yup definitely. Am I going to make better ones in the future? Um...no? Obviously not.

/Kai's POV/

I woke up drenched in sweat, my head spinning like I'd been hit by a truck. That dream—or was it a conversation?—left me more shaken than I cared to admit. The voice was gone, for now, but its lingering words echoed in my mind. Weak. Cutting. Help you? What a joke.

I rubbed my arms instinctively, my fingers brushing over the angry lines that hadn't yet faded. They stung at the touch, a burning reminder of the storm I couldn't seem to escape. Nya was right: I looked like a zombie. No, worse—like I'd gone twelve rounds with my own demons and lost every single one.

The faint sound of her pencil scratching on paper reminded me she was still awake, probably buried in her math homework. I rolled over, pulling the blanket up to my chin, trying to shut out the noise in my head. Sleep wasn't coming anytime soon.

'Why've you been doing it?'
The question had felt like a dagger earlier. Now it felt like a spotlight shining on the parts of me I wanted to bury.

"I'm not weak," I whispered into the darkness.

'Yes, you are,' the voice snapped, making me flinch.

I bolted upright in bed. "You're still here?!"

'Of course, I am. You can't just wish me away, Kai. We're stuck together, whether you like it or not. Besides, I think you'll need me soon.'

"For what?" I hissed.

'Oh, you'll see,' he teased, voice dripping with mockery. 'Now go check the front door.'

"What?"

'Just do it, genius. Or are you too scared to find out what's waiting for you?'

Grumbling, I slid out of bed and crept toward the door. The house was silent except for the occasional creak of wood as it settled. I tiptoed past Nya's room, hoping she wouldn't hear me.

When I reached the front door, I hesitated. "Why am I even listening to you?" I muttered.

'Because you're curious,' he answered smugly.

Rolling my eyes, I unlocked the door and cracked it open. The empty street glowed faintly under the pale light of the streetlamp. For a second, I almost laughed. Of course, there was nothing there. I started to close the door when a low rumble shook the ground beneath my feet.

"What the—"

The rumble grew louder, and suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. He was massive, easily towering over me, with broad shoulders and a menacing aura that made my instincts scream danger.

"Who—" I started, but he cut me off with a deep, gravelly laugh.

"So, you're the soon to be Fire Ninja," he said, his voice echoing like a landslide. "I've been waiting to meet you."

Before I could react, the man stomped his foot, and the ground beneath me cracked and buckled, sending me stumbling backward. His grin widened as he stepped into the light, revealing the jagged, stone-like texture of his skin.

"Who the hell are you?!" I demanded, scrambling to my feet.

"The name's Cole," he replied, his tone oozing confidence. "And I'm here to show you what real strength looks like."

/Somewhere Unknown/

A pair of glowing red eyes watched the scene unfold through a swirling portal. The figure leaned back in their chair, a wicked smile curling their lips.

"Let the games begin," they whispered.
