Liam growled loudly as he threw his desk against the wall. It had been two weeks since Leilani had disappeared with that bastard. No matter how hard he searched he couldn't find a trace of her. It was like she didn't exist anymore. Liam pushed that thought away as he pictured his beautiful mate smiling at him sweetly. The way her entire face would light up every time she saw him. He dropped to his knees and put the heels of his hands against his eyes.
We will find her. Fang said with determination.
We can't live without her, Fang. One more day of this bullshit and I will go insane. Liam said to his wolf. Fang growled in response and paced in agitation. The need to find her was so strong it was driving them insane. Lani was all that mattered.
There was a knock on the door before Gage walked through. His brother felt so guilty for not having gone after Leilani. But there was nothing he could've done. His body had been partially paralyzed because of the force of the hit he took on the wall.
"I think we have something." Gage said and Liam stood up quickly.
"Show me." Gage led his older brother to the outer skirts of their territory. On the edge closer to no man's land on the west side.
"There." Gage said pointing at a group of bushes. Liam growled.
"Tell me what I'm looking at Gage." Liam only saw the shrubs. How was this going to help in finding his Lani?
"Kneel down and take a deep breath near the ground." Liam tried to hold in his temper. But he did as Gage said. He knelt down, put his nose near the ground and took a deep breath through his nose. It was Lani's smell. Just a hint of it. Liam got closer to the bush and tried to find the source of the smell. He found the black pendant that Lani used to wear around her neck. A small black locket that held a picture of her family. The parents were standing up while four boys surrounded a tiny girl with a big smile and curly hair. His Lani. She hadn't taken the pendant off since he had given it to her. Liam put the locket against his nose and took a deep breath. He could smell her, but only faintly.
"We'll follow this trail and hopefully it will lead us somewhere this time." Liam immediately turned into his wolf. Fang took over and growled angrily before he ran.
They ran for so long, so far, and so hard that Fangs sides hurt. He wasn't breathing hard but he was pushing himself hard. He needed to find Lani. But her smell was all but fainting. Fang growled in agitation. His ears perked up as he heard something. It was such a soft whisper he wasn't sure he even heard it. He heard it again and he took off. His pack sped behind him.
They only stopped when they heard voices growing louder as they got closer. There, behind the mountain wedged between a peak and a cave, was a camp. There were a couple of tents strewn around a campfire. There were lanterns leading into the cave but it was hard for Fang to see anything else. He growled as he saw Paul coming out of the cage as he violently pulled Lani from her elbow. a menacing growl rumbled low in Fangs throat. Lani's head snapped up as if she had heard him but she didn't dare look his way.
"What the fuck did you do?!" Paul growled at one of his men. The man quickly stood up and stood in a defensive position.
"She was hurting." The man explained simply. Paul was about to punch the man. Fang stood up and was about to run forward while Paul was distracted but Lani's voice stopped him.
"No!" She yelled out authoritatively. Everyone actually stopped in their tracks. Fangs men looked at him for instruction while Paul's men looked at him.
"No," Lani said more softly. "you can't risk it." Fang knew she was talking to him, but she stared at Paul while she talked and that made him angry. She knew something Fang didn't, and for that reason, he didn't move forward. She was warning him.
"Risk what? More insubordination from my men? I will not have them disobeying me!" Paul yelled out as he struck the man and then walked angrily into the cave. Lani passed an inconspicuous look towards Fang and shook her head at him before walking to the man on the ground. She looked at the man, but she talked to him.
"He's volatile and insane. More so than before. There's no telling what he has deep within the cave." Damn. Fang shook his large head and turned to look at his beta.
'We should head the warning.' he said even though he knew Fang didn't want to leave his mate. Her belly had grown significantly and he knew the pup would come soon. Fang growled as he stared at his beautiful mate before heading back home. He would rally all his troops and come back tonight. His mate wasn't staying here any longer than necessary.
Leilani's heart screamed as she saw Fang and his men take off. She knew it was the safest thing but she couldn't stand being around Paul again. He was worst than the last time she had been taken by him. He was crazier, angrier. He really couldn't be swayed from his ideas. She had gone in with him to the cave, but he wouldn't let her go in that far. Every time one of his men came to talk to him about whatever was back there, Paul would always go somewhere else. She couldn't hear anything that they were saying. She had almost had a heart attack when Fang was about to charge. The Gods only know what kind of mess that would have caused. She couldn't risk his well being or that of the their pack.
"He is crazy." the man in front of her said, taking her out of her thoughts. She extended her hand to him but he shook his head. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth as he stood up. The man was tall, he had short black hair and brown eyes.
"I'm sorry he hit you Koven." she had told him to just leave her tied up but he had refused.
"I wasn't about to leave you like that, your wrists were bleeding." he informed her as he shook his head. He looked down at her belly as he always did with a curious and disgusted look. He probably thought it was Paul's baby she carried, but he had never once asked her anything about it.
"It's not his baby." she said quietly. Koven looked a little shocked but her quickly regained his composure.
"He took you too didn't he? He took you from your family?" he looked beyond angry. Had Paul taken his family? Was he here to bid out orders from Paul? She hadn't understood Koven's place here, but as she touched his arm, she saw a vision of his past.
He was playing in an open field of flowers with a young girl. She had his same black straight hair and brown eyes. She giggled as she ran away from him, her blue dress swaying around her gracefully.
"You'll never catch me, brother." the girl said as she turned around to find a younger Koven smiling and chasing after her. He was wearing blue jeans and a black button down shirt the were folded on his forearms.
"Tricia!" he suddenly yelled out in fear as he saw a blur of fur run across the tress towards her. Tricia stopped and looked up him. Three grey wolves surrounded the little girl, growling menacingly.
"Koven." she cried out. As soon as Koven started running after her, two of the wolves attacked him as the last one attacked his sister.
Lani let go of his arm as the little girls screams filled her head. She put her hands against her ear and shook her head. How could someone be so evil? Her eyes filled with tears as she looked up at Koven. He was here for revenge. He was waiting for the right moment to attack. A move that would seriously end Paul.
"You will have your revenge soon." she told him. She knew Fang would come back with reinforcements. She knew her mate and he would not leave her here any longer than needed. Lani couldn't shake the feeling that something really awful was coming soon, but she hoped to see Liam again.
"Save me, Liam." she whispered as a tear escaped.
