Liam pulled Leilani behind him as he took a protective stance and searched for the danger. But he couldn't find any. Had she growled at Corbin? Cautiously, he turned to look at her and raised his eyebrow in question. She looked at him and bared her teeth playfully.
"He is not what he seems." she said quietly.
"What do you mean?" Liam really didn't want another problem on his hands but he knew he could handle it. Leilani smiled and touched his face softly. Liam's whole body relaxed and he smiled too. He loved his mate dearly.
"It will be alright, love. He is going to be a great help, but it is not my place to tell of his past. Once he wakes up, I will talk to him and then he will decide what to do. Trust me. I know he will make a great decision." It didn't really sit well with Liam but he trusted Lani so much. If she said something good would come out of it then he would trust her with that.
"Okay sweetheart, but I will keep him guarded at all times." Lani was already nodding.
"I know baby, it's in your nature to keep your people and loved ones protected." he smiled at her and realized that she trusted him completely and already knew his ways and didn't once complain. Instead she knew what he had to do in order for him to feel comfortable. He loved her so much. And she loved him the same. Liam smiled and grabbed Lani in a tight hug.
"Thank the heavens that I got you. I love you so much sweetheart." Lani squeezed her arms around him, holding him tighter, and chuckled in his ear.
"You are not the only lucky one here." She placed a soft kiss against his cheek before she pulled away to look into his eyes.
"We need to get home. Your mother said she would be there today. She wants to see the baby." Lani laid a protective hand over her rounded belly as she spoke and Liam wondered if she ever realized that she did that. The doctor cleared her throat and Lani and Liam both turned to look at her. The doctor fidgeted as they stared, waiting for her to say something.
"I think I should tell you that you will not be able to see the baby throughout your pregnancy, Luna. The last time we checked while you were ill the baby seemed to be surrounded by a bright...bubble of light. The baby is being-"
"Protected inside the womb." Liam finished. He turned to Lani and put his hand over hers over her belly. Was the Goddess protecting his child because his mother was one of her children? Or was there another reason for it? Liam hadn't heard of this with any of his people. He felt good that his child was protected but he didn't feel good not knowing the exact reasons why. And he wanted to know why although he didn't expect any answers since the Goddess normally stayed quite and well hidden. She had her children work through her.
"Well, your mother will be very disappointed to hear that." Lani said with the cutest pout Liam had ever seen on her lips. And it was sexy as hell too. He chuckled and started pulling her towardsthe door so that they could make their way home already.
"It's okay, love. My mother will survive." Lani smiled and grabbed his hand as they made their way home while enjoying the bright sunny day.
An hour later.....
"I'm gonna die without ever seeing my grandbaby! What kind of life is this for a grandmoter?!" Liam's mom, Mrs. Hannah Haven, was yelling out overdrammatically.Lani was tryin so hard to supress her laughter, but when Mrs. Haven put her hand to her forehead and threw herself on her husband, the laughter finally escaped. Everyone turned to look at her and she smiled sweetly.
"I assure that the Moon Goddess will allow us to see the baby in good time. She knows we are in trouble so she will protect our child until it is safe." Leilani said confidently and everyone nodded.
"So what do we do now?" Carter, Beta, asked Liam but it was Lani who answered.
"Make sure the whole pack territory is secure. Nobody gets in or out. Get background checks on everyone. We start training those who don't know how to fight soon. This shouldn't be taken lightly. The men we are dealing with...they have a lot of experience in camoflauging into their surroundings. They are great fighters but not the best. And they will do anything, and I do mean anything, to get what they came here for." Lani grew angry so quickly that sparks were noticibly flying over her skin.
"What are the background checks for?" Hannah asked. Lani looked at Liam's mother and frowned.
"Unfortunately, when they show up, they always have inside people. Their backgrounds will help identify who." Lani answered simply and Hannah sighed. She didn't like hearing that someone in the pack would betray them. But it was inevitable.
"And what is it exactly that these supposed dangerous men are after?" Seth, Liam's father asked dismissively and Lani growled. She could practically feel his annoyance towards this topic. He really was too confident for his own good. And that could get him killed. Seth bared his teeth at her but bared his neck to her. She was Luna after all.
"This isn't a game Mr. Haven. These men are very dangerous, you have no idea. And no disrespect to you but you should be smarter than that. I know how these men work and how they like to do things. Because these are the men who kidnapped me and kept me to torture and rape for ten years of my life." Everyone gasped at her revelation except Liam, who only grew angry.
"These men are here to get what is to them, an ultimate prize. Me." Lani said with so much emotion laced into the last word. She hoped for everyone's sake, that they did not decise to attack soon. They just weren't ready for the havoc it would wreak.
