I hit post. A blink later, like, one second after, some random account peeps my story. Then, boom, they liked it.

Bold move. I see you.

I scrolled up, clicked the page. Had to see if it's who I'm thinking, then my principal's voice, mixed with my teacher's, snapped me back.

"So you're a nurse now?" Mr. Small smiled. We called him Specter—always around, but you never saw him coming.

"Yeah," I nodded and purposely say. "I'm finally graduating too."

His smile faded.

"Amoy no make me feel so man. A whole heap a trouble yuh used to give we enuh. The board wouldn't make yuh graduate," he spoke gingerly.

Well, that caught you off guard...

...didn't it?

I was a nuisance in high school.

Yes, I'm a nurse now, but a far mi a come from.

My life? Is one for the books. Actually, I need my own novel and I hope I get an happy ending too.

I was the kind people say aguh breed. I was the kind they say wouldn't amount to nothing. The kind they called 'hot foot' and spoke down on. The in and out of mixup, fight next week, Principal's and Guidance counselor's office next week kind of girl.

But life did a one–eighty after my bad choices landed Mommy on the tenth floor, and I stared death in the eyes.

"Yeah I already collected the degree from Uwi. A just the graduation leave, but I wanted a job here," I told them.

My teachers were smiling, even Mrs. Robinson who told me I wouldn't make it.

"We are proud of you Amoy," she smiled. "We truly are."

I returned her fake smile. "I know."

"We already have a nurse here, but I'll see what I can do. I'm proud of you Amoy," Mr. Small gave me a high five.
