"Wah dat you a drink inna deh Aloe bottle deh?" Bridget stepped closer, eyes narrowing at me.

She reached for it. I swing, just in time, keeping it from her grip.

"Girl... a' Aloe Vera juiceeee," it comes out wrapped in a loud, guilty laugh. Casa's scent already swirling 'round her nostrils like incense.

"Amoy..."

"If it's an Aloe Vera bottle, nuh must that in deh?" I giggle, taking a sip, with a childish look on my face.

She's not playing with me.

"Wahm to yuh Bridget? That's why me nuh like when dem send me a Regional enuh. Cas yuh miss me so much, yuh get annoying," I laugh.

She proceeds to say my name in monotone.

"Amoy fi a pretty gyal, you a wah alcoholic enuh," She pinched me. I bursted out laughing.

Laughing again...

The first sign of depression.

"Yuh nuh far from the 'special' boss dem a the likkle cawna shop dem," she dragged the bottle, sniffed it, face already judging.

I give up, waiting for her to go off, her head dipping closer to the mouth of the bottle.

Then-

"Amoy..." she looks up at me. "Yuh wah the pickney born wid two head?"

"It's... it's just a little... it won't hurt," it slips out in a whisper.

It's early. It's just a fetus right now.

But something about drinking these days... just, soothes me. At least I'm not smoking.

Not gon lie... mi sound like mi buy mi nursing degree.

A sigh, not of relief, leaves my lips.

Then just as I'm about to say something even more ridiculous-

Whap!

A slap flies out the air and lands clean on my arm. "Stop it, man. Stop hurt the baby and guh hurt the father."

I turned my gaze to the window, and zoned right out. And just like that, I'm somewhere else, my own little world, quiet and far from here.

I really was doing this purposely. Self-sabotage in a cute bottle. Aloe label and all.

I'm wrong.

I need to stop.

"Amoy?" she leans into me. For a second, I forget she's right beside me. But then I feel her eyes.

I turn to her.
