I couldn't sit still.
"Nana, mi cyaa go a harmony park wid mi fren dem?" I whined again, tossing and turning on the cool tile floor.
Being stuck inside this long wasn't normal.
This feel like prison!
I was used to being in the street, running errands, making money, playing with mi fren dem. Buying ice cream, and ramp dawg.
"Likkle bwoy," she said with her glasses pushed down her nose. "Which paaat yuh wah go now?"
"Go play wid mi fren dem a harmony park. Mi nah guh stay long, gramma."
She didn't answer. Just kept flipping through the Jamaica Observer, eyes skimming the paper, coughing every so often. Her fingers pulled at the ends of her long plaits, comb in her hand. I could tell she was tired.
If she dropped asleep, mi could sneak out.
God pleaseeeeeee mek she guh sleep!
I climbed up behind her on the sofa, rubbing her shoulders soft-soft like how mi see mi mommy do it when she want something.
It worked. Her eyes blinked slow. I nearly smile.
But five minutes pass and she still wasn't sleeping.
Jah know!
I rolled off the couch and laid on the floor again, propped up on my elbows watching Joker on the TV. Every now and then I peeked up to see if she dropped asleep.
Nothing.
She was still there.
Ooman cya sleep? Like she and sleep inna malice.
Jah knowww!
I rolled again.
Then she spoke suddenly. "Yuh bathe yet, likkle bwoy?"
"Yeah," I said, eyes still locked on the TV.
She sucked her teeth. "Alrite... yuh know wah mi figet fi buy a shop?"
