Sleeping really was the cure for stress.

Because after all that waiting, me sitting there staring at the gate, checking the road every other second, hoping to see Kwes or my child stepping out of a taxi, and getting nothing, I just gave up.

I closed my eyes and slept.

In Nana's bed.

She never bother cuss this time.

I don't know how long I was out for, but now she's shaking me like crazy.

Lawd Jesus.

I didn't even wait for my eyes to fully open before her voice burst through the room.

"Dem find him! Dem find him!"

Aliveeee?

That's the next question!

I blinked twice, still half inside the dream. Her smile calmed me first, then I reached for her hand just to make sure this wasn't part of some fake happy dream in my head.

Cause me delusional when me ready.

I felt her skin.

Okay... this is happening... this is really happening.

"Weh him deh?" I slid off the bed quick, scanning the room like maybe he was already here. I half expected to hear little footsteps or see that Kwes had him tucked under one arm.

Nana laughed. "Kwes nuh reach back yet, but him say him find them. Police back up the dutty bwoy dem weh tek the pickney. Dem linked to the Janet gyal. Hear say dem a mussi har cousin."

I shook my head and sat up. "Why am I not surprised?"

My phone buzzed right then with a message from Kwes.

I tapped it fast.

A picture popped up, him and Qeyyz standing side by side, safe, smiling. My heart exhaled. Literally.
