"Daddy" Issues || a.i

I couldn't sleep at all. I know I shouldn't of left Luke but he doesn't want me to baby him or some shit.

My phone rings and I pick it up.
"Hello?"
"Jenny. It's Ashton."
"Oh is something wrong?"
"No I just could sleep."
"Me either." I sighed.

"What was his name?" I asked breaking the silence.
"Joshua."
"Did you or Tina pick the name?"
"I didn't marry Tina." Ashton paused.

My head start buzzing. I left him so he could start a family with her. I loved him. Was I not enough.

"Oh..."
"Tina broke up with me three weeks after you left for California."
"Why didn't you call me?" I asked.
"You were starting a new chapter."
"Then who was your wife."
"Her name was Nicole. She was a lawyer. I met her outside the court house a year after Tina left me."
"When did you get married?"
"Six months later. A year later we had Josh."
"You both still together?" I asked.
"No. I mean we were divorced long before Josh died."
"Oh.. What happened?"
He chuckles a bit. "I wasn't her type she was into women, but we were best friends so I support her."
"When...how..."
"How old was Josh when he died?" Ashton said.
"Yeah.." I stutter.
"He was 5. He died a year ago on August 27th."
"I'm sorry Ashton."
"I wish you could of met him." He laughs. "You'd loved him." He said.
"I bet I would." I agreed.
It was silent.
"So why are you in California?"
"Well when Josh had cancer we had to be closer to the hospital so we moved here about 3 years ago." He said.
"Why didn't you call me? Talk to me? Meet with me? You knew where I was going?"
"Jenny! We have to completely different worlds now. I had a family. A son."
"Then it was ripped away from you! You needed someone." I said.
"I'm fine. It's getting better."

It was silent again.
"So you and Luke."
"Ya we've been together for about 4 years I think.... Did you see Peter?"
I heard Ashton sigh. "I don't know what happened to that kid. I mean he went to rehab when I was there. He's the town drunk. I mean I don't blame him. With his parents dying and Luke having cancer..."
"Him and Luke don't talk."
"What? Why?"
"No clue." I sighed.
"How's your sister?"
"She's good. Really good actually."

It was awkward silence again.
"I better go.. I need to be well rested for school and visit Luke.. Night Ashton."
"Night Jenny."

I lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
I look over at the clock and see it's already 6 am.
So I just get ready to go to the hospital earlier.

I walk into Luke room seeing sleepy Luke. Then his eyes flutter open.
"Jenny? What...what are you doing here?"
"Couldn't sleep. I missed you." I said propping a chair next to his bed.
"What the doctors tell you?" He asked.
"Just minor seizure and your stomach just wasn't liking the food you were eating." I said.

Luke grabbed the hands. "Don't freakout babe. It's all good. I'm out in the afternoon then in two days you GRADUATE!!" Luke screamed.
I laughed. "Luke hush! People are sleeping!" I giggle.
"I love you Jenny." Luke says kinda out of the blue.
I blush. "I love you more." I say kissing him.
