Chapter 35

“That’s what happened,” Sunehri concluded, her voice heavy with the weight of the story she had just recounted.

Riya sat back in her chair, her brows furrowed as she processed everything. “Neil loved her so much, yet he also hurt her deeply. I can’t imagine the kind of pain Avni went through. No wonder she decided to go for therapy after college.”

“Yes, Riya di,” Sunehri nodded solemnly, her expression mirroring the sadness she felt for her best friend.

“But how do you know all of this? How did you find out about them?” Sunehri asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

“Yesterday,” Riya began, lowering her voice slightly. “Neil came to our house. He and Avni talked in the garden. I overheard their conversation from the kitchen.”

Sunehri’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. “And? What are you planning then?”

Riya’s expression shifted, determination settling on her face. “I’m going to plan something to patch them up. Even now, Avni loves Neil. She’s just too hurt and angry to admit it.”

Sunehri smiled faintly. “Yes, I know she does.”

“But I’ll need your help to pull this off,” Riya said, leaning forward.

Sunehri didn’t hesitate. “I’ll always help Avni. She deserves someone like Neil. He made a terrible mistake, but now he realizes it. If there’s even a chance to fix this, I’m in.”

Riya paused for a moment, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind. “There’s just one thing I can’t stop wondering about,” she admitted.

“What is it?” Sunehri asked.

“Kk,” Riya said, leaning back in her chair. “Does he love her? Or is it something else?”

Sunehri sighed, taking a moment before answering. “At one point, he was just obsessed with competing with Neil. But now? Now he genuinely cares for Avni. But as her friend, I know one thing—Avni will only be truly happy with Neil. Kk needs to face rejection from Avni to move on with his life.”

Riya nodded, her lips pressing into a thin line. “That makes sense.”

After a beat of silence, Sunehri asked, “What about Ali jiju? Are you going to tell him about this?”

Riya hesitated, then shook her head. “I will, but not right now. Timing is everything.”

“Okay, then,” Sunehri said, standing up. “We should get going now. I’ll drop you off.”

Riya waved her off with a smile. “No need. I’ll take my car.”

They exchanged goodbyes, each lost in their thoughts as they parted ways. Both women were determined in their own way to see Avni happy again, even if it meant mending what was broken and bringing Neil back into her life.

Swetha and Neil sat on the plush sofa in Neil’s room, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting shadows across their faces. Neil had just finished recounting the events that had unfolded—his voice weighed down with emotion as he relived the pain.

Swetha’s face was a mix of disbelief and shock. She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that her beloved Juhi, her brother’s daughter, had uttered such cruel words and caused such turmoil. Juhi, whom she had always cherished like her own child.

“Neil, I can’t believe this,” Swetha murmured, her voice trembling. “Juhi said those words?”

Neil nodded silently, his eyes downcast. The memories stung like fresh wounds, and he struggled to keep his emotions in check.
