Chapter 32

Avni stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her, anger evident in every movement. Throwing herself onto the bed, she buried her face in her pillow, her mind replaying the events of the day. Neil's face, his hurt expression, and her own harsh words haunted her. Time passed without her notice, and after what felt like moments, she glanced at the clock—it had already been an hour.

Her mother's words echoed in her mind: "in any relationship, arguments are bound to happen. But the key is to never let them fester. Always clear things up before going to bed. A beautiful relationship deserves care and effort."

Sitting up suddenly, Avni muttered to herself, "I need to apologize to him." Without hesitation, she checked the time—it was 5 PM. She bolted out of her room and headed toward the living room where Neela was watching the evening news.

"Mom, I'll be late tonight, and I'll eat outside. Don't wait for me," Avni said quickly, already moving toward the door.

Neela looked up, concerned. "Avni, where are you going?"

Stopping in her tracks, Avni turned to face her mother. "We fought, and it was my mistake. I need to say sorry."

Neela's face softened with a knowing smile. "Go, but make sure you come back with a smile—and maybe with your boyfriend too," she teased.

"Mom!" Avni exclaimed, blushing furiously, and rushed out the door.

After calling DD to confirm Neil's whereabouts, Avni learned that he was in his apartment, not his family home. She wasted no time and drove straight there. Standing outside his door, her heart raced as she rang the bell. Neil opened it almost immediately, his expression unreadable. Without a word, he stepped aside, allowing her to enter.

Avni hesitated, her eyes fixed on the floor, unable to meet his gaze. Neil closed the door and stood silently, waiting for her to speak.

"I'm sorry, Neil," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "I shouldn't have said those words."

Neil didn't reply; instead, he pulled her into a tight embrace. The warmth of his arms was enough to melt the tension between them. They stayed like that for a moment, neither needing words.

Finally pulling away, Neil looked into her eyes and said in a strained voice, "Avni, don't do this again."

"I won't," she promised, her voice steady as she hugged him again, this time more gently. He reciprocated, his hands resting protectively around her.

Suddenly, a growling noise broke the moment. Avni's stomach betrayed her hunger, and she looked up at Neil, embarrassed.

He chuckled softly. "Wait here. I'll make you an omelette."

She smiled, watching him head to the kitchen. Following him, she leaned against the counter, admiring him as he moved around. "Neil, do you know how to cook?" she asked, genuinely curious.

"Yes," he replied, flashing her a smile. "In fact, I love cooking."

"Then I'm so lucky," she teased.

"Of course, you are," he said with a playful wink.

When the omelette was ready, Neil sat her down and fed her with his own hands. She couldn't help but beam at him, her earlier anger long forgotten.

After their meal, they settled on the couch, Avni nestled against Neil's chest, her arms wrapped around his torso. "I'm sorry, Neil," she murmured again, her voice muffled against him. "I really shouldn't have said those things."
