"Hey Nate, is she alright? What happened?" Tom Sinclair asks Nate.
"I dont know. She just fainted."
Tom looks at the hospital floor silently. He can feel Nate's eyes on him but can't bring himself to speak.
He takes a seat and a few minutes later a doctor speaks to Jade's father.
"Mr. Sinclair, jade is fine. Although there is one problem."
"what's wrong with her?!" Nate asks the doctor frantically.
"what happened?" asks Tom.
"jade is pregnant."
The whole room drops to a deathly silence.
Tom looks to Nate.
"are you the father?" Tom asks Nate.
"its possible. I'm so sorry Mr.Sinclair."
"I have to be fine with it. I've lost my daughter once and I dont want to lose her again for being mad at her."
"Mr. Sinclair... You do know what this means. Right?"
"what? Whats wrong?" Nate asks.
"would you like to tell him or should I?" the doctor asks Tom.
"I think I should tell him."
"alright Mr. Sinclair, but I'll need to speak with you after."
"alright. Does jade know?"
"no, I thought I would leave that to you."
Tom sits down on one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs. He pats the seat next to him. Nate takes a seat.
Tom can see he's anxious and on edge.
"Nate there's no easy way to say this so I'm just going to be blunt. Jade has cancer."
"w-what? But she-she's only a teenager. She's basically still a kid..."
"I know. Its unfair. You understand what this means for the baby?"
"no. What?"
"jade can't have chemo therapy while being pregnant. Either the baby lives or jade lives."
After Tom told Nate that, he broke down crying. Nate was still shocked but his eyes were burning up with tears in his eyes. How would they tell jade she has to choose between her life, or the baby's?
