Scar pov
I clung to CG like my life depended on it—which, to be fair, it probably did. We were soaring so high above the city, and every instinct I had was screaming at me not to look down. But despite the terror twisting in my gut, I couldn’t help sneaking a glance at the sky.
It was breathtaking.
The city lights glittered like a sea of stars below us, and the real stars above seemed close enough to touch. The wind was sharp and cold, but it felt alive, brushing against my face and tugging at my hair. And then there was CG.
He looked like he belonged up here, his wings cutting through the air with effortless grace. His expression was one of pure joy, his grin lighting up his face as he glanced back at me. For a moment, I forgot my fear.
“You’re doing great,” he said, his voice somehow carrying over the rush of the wind.
“I’m not doing anything except trying not to have a heart attack!” I shot back, but there was no real bite to my words.
He laughed—a bright, carefree sound that made my chest ache. “Then you’re succeeding brilliantly.”
I focused on his face instead of the dizzying height. His eyes sparkled with mischief, and his hair was tousled by the wind, giving him an untamed, wild look. Up here, he wasn’t just CG—he was something more.
“You’re… amazing at this,” I admitted, the words slipping out before I could stop them.
“Flying? Yeah, I’ve been told I’m a natural,” he teased, the grin on his face widening.
“No, I mean… all of it,” I said quietly. “The hero stuff. Saving me. Not hesitating.”
His grin softened into something gentler, and for a moment, the chaos of the world below seemed very far away. “It’s what I do, hotty. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
I swallowed hard, gripping his arm a little tighter. “Just… don’t drop me, okay?”
“Never,” he promised, his voice steady. And for the first time, I believed him.
I could feel the weight of the city below us, the ticking clock in my chest as we slowly descended. The air was still cool around us, and the city lights twinkled farther below, but the moment felt like it was slipping through my fingers.
I couldn’t—no, I wouldn't—let him disappear again. I wasn’t ready for that. I wasn’t ready to lose this chaotic, comforting presence that had so suddenly and unexpectedly returned. This, right here, was the kind of madness I needed. The rush, the unpredictability, the feeling that, for once, everything wasn’t so still, so controlled. It was everything I was missing.
As we descended closer to the ground, I felt the cold anxiety creep back in. I didn’t want it to end. I didn’t want him to pull away or slip out of my reach again.
Without thinking, I buried my face into his shoulder, clinging to him like he was the only thing keeping me from falling. My grip tightened around him, and I felt his arms adjust slightly as though sensing my hesitation, as though he knew exactly what I was afraid of.
I could feel the beat of his wings, steady and sure as he held us aloft. And somehow, despite everything, he didn’t put me down.
The city stretched out below us, lights flickering like tiny stars scattered across the ground. We circled higher, and I could feel the rush of air around us as we made our way up toward the tallest skyscraper in the city. My heart beat a little faster, partly from the height and partly from the pure exhilaration of being up here, with him, after everything that had happened.
