Sometimes I forget how seamlessly CG and I work together.

The moment we hit the industrial district, we didn’t need to talk—just a glance, a nod, and we moved in sync. I took the ground, weaving through rusted shipping containers and crumbling alleyways while he took the sky, silent as a shadow. Every step, every movement was precise. We knew exactly where the other would be without looking.

I spotted a flickering light in one of the warehouses and tapped my communicator. “Possible location. East building, third floor. Windows are boarded up, but there’s movement inside.”

"Copy that. I’ll take the roof. You flush them out, I’ll cover the exits."

His voice was steady, focused. The teasing, chaotic Cute Guy from earlier was nowhere to be seen. This was the professional, sharp-eyed informant who never missed a thing.

I took a breath and moved.

I crouched low behind a stack of rusted crates, keeping my breathing steady as I surveyed the warehouse interior. The dim, flickering light barely illuminated the space, but my eyes adjusted quickly.

Three figures moved around the room—two large men, armed, pacing near the entrance, and one smaller figure hunched over a table, messing with something I couldn’t see. No sign of the kid yet.

"You got eyes on the target?" CG's voice came softly through the earpiece, barely above a whisper.

"Negative. Three hostiles, no sight of the kid. Might be deeper in," I murmured back, pressing closer to the crate as one of the guards shifted, glancing my way.

I held my breath as he lingered, his gaze sweeping the area. A long second passed before he grunted and turned back to his post.

"I’ll get a better angle. Stay put."

Above me, a shadow moved along the rafters, silent as a ghost. CG barely made a sound as he maneuvered, his wings keeping him balanced. A moment later, he let out a low click over the comms—a signal.

Target spotted.

I flexed my fingers, gripping my bow. It was go time.

I moved quickly, staying low as I approached the first guard. With precise movements, I struck behind his knee, forcing him to buckle before delivering a swift hit to the back of his head. He crumpled silently, and I caught him before he could make a sound, dragging him behind the crates.

The second one barely had time to react before I grabbed him from behind, pressing a forearm against his throat. He struggled, trying to elbow me, but I twisted, using his momentum to flip him onto the ground. A solid hit to the side of his head with my elbow knocked him out cold.

The third turned just in time to see me, his eyes widening. Before he could call out, I lunged, kicking the weapon from his grip and following up with a punch to his jaw. He staggered, but I grabbed his collar and slammed him into the nearest crate. His head lolled to the side as he slumped to the floor, unconscious.

"Three down. Moving bodies," I murmured over the comms, dragging them one by one behind some crates where they wouldn’t be immediately spotted.

"Efficient as always, Hot Guy," CG's voice was laced with amusement.

"You’re up, CG. Let’s get the kid."as I went to move he gave me a signal to stop don't move don't even breathe

I froze instantly, muscles tensing as I barely caught the signal CG had given me from above. He was nothing more than a shadow in the rafters, perched silently like a bird of prey. My breath stilled as I followed his gaze, tracking whatever had set him on high alert.
