Scar pov
I was so happy I had convinced him to stay, even just for a little bit longer. I didn’t want him to leave—I never did.
So, without really thinking, I rested my head on his shoulder.
Is this what love feels like?
The thought lingered, heavier than I expected. If I didn’t want him to leave… did that mean I loved him? And if he wanted to leave… did that mean he didn’t love me back?
But then he had said good.
Did that mean he didn’t want me to leave either?
“Scar?” His voice pulled me from my thoughts.
I lifted my head, meeting his gaze just as he wrapped his wings around me. Warm, soft, and entirely encompassing.
“If you think too hard, you’ll start to get worry lines,” he teased, his voice light, playful.
I just smiled at him.
Because for now, he was still here.
He did something I didn’t expect.
Before I could process it, he cupped my face, his touch gentle but firm, and pulled me closer. My breath hitched, my entire face going bright red.
I was shocked, sure—but also… curious.
Where was this going?
Then, before I could even ask, he kissed me.
For a moment, I froze. My brain short-circuited, completely unable to keep up with what was happening. But as the warmth of his lips sank in, as the reality of the moment settled, I found myself melting into it.
And I kissed him back.
I ended up gripping his waist a little more, closing my eyes just to enjoy the moment.
Everything else—the city, the worries, the weight of the world—just faded away.
Eventually, we broke apart for air, but he didn’t step away. Instead, he gently caressed my cheek, his thumb brushing over my skin like he was memorizing every detail. He didn’t say anything, didn’t explain why he kissed me. But he didn’t need to.
I could see it in his eyes.
Love.
And I was way too happy to think too hard about it.
With a grin, I grabbed him and lifted him off the ground, spinning him just enough to make him laugh. It was light and carefree, the kind of sound that made my heart do backflips.
“Scar!” He squawked between giggles, his wings fluttering slightly. “Put me down!”
“Never,” I teased, holding him just a little tighter before finally setting him back down.
He was still smiling when he looked up at me, breathless but happy. And I knew, right then and there, I never wanted him to leave.
I took him inside, still holding his hand because I didn’t want to let go just yet. He was still a bit giggly, his laughter softening into little huffs of amusement as he steadied himself. But there was something else too—curiosity.
And not just from him.
I couldn’t help but wonder. Why did he kiss me?
The question sat heavy on my tongue as I glanced at him. He must’ve noticed because his expression shifted, his wings twitching slightly.
“Something on your mind, Scar?” he asked, tilting his head.
I hesitated, then finally just asked, “Why did you kiss me?”
He blinked, and for a moment, I thought he might not answer. Then, with a small shrug, he said, “It just… felt right in the moment.”
That wasn’t much of an explanation, but somehow, I didn’t need more.
I could’ve pressed him, asked if he had been thinking about it for a while, if he wanted to do it again. But instead, I just squeezed his hand, feeling the warmth of his fingers laced with mine.
“Felt right, huh?” I murmured, a small smile tugging at my lips.
He gave a little nod, his cheeks still slightly pink. “Yeah.”
I could live with that.
We had just settled onto the couch, waiting for word from Star and everyone else, when the familiar hum of a portal filled the room. A second later, someone’s head popped out—upside down from the ceiling, no less.
Xavier.
His antennas twitched rapidly, a telltale sign that he was anxious about something. His red eyes darted around the room before he spoke, his voice sharp and urgent in a language I didn’t understand.
"a∷ᒷ ᔑꖎꖎ 𝙹⎓ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ !¡ᒷ𝙹!¡ꖎᒷ ⊣𝙹リᒷ ᔑᓵᓵ╎↸ᒷリℸ ̣ ᔑꖎꖎ|| ℸ ̣ ⍑∷ᒷ∴ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷᒲ ᔑꖎꖎ ╎リℸ ̣ 𝙹 ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ⍊𝙹╎↸ ᔑリ↸ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ||'∷ᒷ ᔑリ⊣∷||....." ( Translation: " Are all of the people gone accidentally threw them all into the void and they're angry....." )
I blinked. "What?"
Xavier's antennas twitched even more, clearly frustrated that no one immediately understood him. He huffed, then started scanning the room.
Grian, sitting beside me, let out a soft sigh before rubbing his temple. "Hold on, I got this," he muttered.
I turned to him in surprise. "Wait—you understand him?"
Grian gave me a sideways glance. "Of course, I do. I pick up languages fast." He waved a hand toward Xavier, who was still poking his head out of the portal, now drumming his fingers against the edge impatiently. "Now let me focus before he starts throwing people into the void again."
I looked back up at Xavier, who was now dangling slightly lower, his shoulders halfway through the ceiling portal, waiting for a response. His tail flicked in what I could only imagine being anxiety. " Hᒷꖎᓭ ╎ᓭ ᓭ𝙹 ᔑリ⊣∷|| ∴╎ℸ ̣ ⍑ ||𝙹⚍ ∷╎⊣⍑ℸ ̣ リ𝙹∴ ⍑ᒷ'ᓭ ᓭᒷᔑ∷ᓵ⍑╎リ⊣ ᒷ⍊ᒷ∷||∴⍑ᒷ∷ᒷ ⎓𝙹∷ ||𝙹⚍ ᔑリ↸ ||𝙹⚍ ᒲ╎⊣⍑ℸ ̣ ∴ᔑリℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ⍑⚍∷∷|| ⚍!¡ ᔑリ↸ ⊣ᒷℸ ̣ 𝙹⚍ℸ ̣ 𝙹⎓ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ⍊𝙹╎↸ ʖᒷᓵᔑ⚍ᓭᒷ ʖ|| ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᓭ𝙹⚍リ↸ᓭ 𝙹⎓ ╎ℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ||'∷ᒷ ℸ ̣ ∷||╎リ⊣ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᓵ𝙹リ⍊╎リᓵᒷ ||𝙹⚍∷ ʖ∷𝙹ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ∷ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 𝙹!¡ᒷリ ⚍!¡ ᔑ !¡𝙹∷ℸ ̣ ᔑꖎ ᓭ𝙹 ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ|| ᓵᔑリ ᓵ𝙹ᒲᒷ ╎リ ᔑリ↸ ⊣∷ᔑʖ ||𝙹⚍" grian side with surprisingly fluidity that Xavier kind of had his antenna's twitch slightly before looking around before climbing out entirely I guess he was hanging out with us now. ( Translation:Hels is so angry with you right now he's searching everywhere for you and you might want to hurry up and get out of the void because by the sounds of it they're trying to convince your brother to open up a portal so they can come in and grab you)
