Author's POV

The day-old rubble from Team Y/n's practical exam lay untouched since the unconscious girl and the injured man had been removed from the area. It was almost peaceful. Almost.

The blood that stained the floor was still fresh with the memory of the events; Midoriya was too uncomfortable to consider the deserted battlegrounds peaceful.

He was skittish as he walked at Iida's side, following Toshi-san's lead through the destruction. Midoriya jumped as he heard the echoes of their footsteps from the intact alleys around them. It was as if he expected the wreck of a girl from yesterday to jump out and attack him.

"Now Young Midoriya, when was the last time you saw Young Y/n with her locket?" asked Toshi-san as he stopped just before where he was stabbed yesterday.

"Um, I think... I think she was wearing it when I took them to that alley. Yeah, there was definitely a chain around her neck when I saw her-." Midoriya froze for a second as he realised what he was saying. "Her scar."

He hadn't had time to register what he had seen in the middle of the exam and he had forgotten about this strange encounter until this moment. It was only now that he appreciated how unusual Y/n's reaction was. Why was she trying to hide it? Why was she crying when he noticed? Midoriya began to see what Bakugo meant when he said she was going through something.

He looked up at Toshi-san and noticed a nervous expression briefly pass over his skeletal features.

"That means she most likely lost it in the time you moved from that alleyway to here. Probably when you carried her here or when she was thrown at the wall," Iida added.

"She was thrown at a wall?" asked Midoriya. This was news to him.

"She was thrown into multiple," Iida replied, he too was slightly surprised, but at Midoriya's apparent lack of situational awareness in battle. "I was quite worried about the state of her back when I was watching."

An embarrassed chuckle escaped Toshi-san's. "I suppose that I- All Might was quite harsh on you three during your practical."

Toshi-san internally kicked himself for almost slipping up like that. However Iida glossed over this detail and went straight to devising a plan to locate the necklace.

"Splitting up is probably the best course of action, right Toshi-san? That way we can cover more ground and find the necklace speedily." Iida looked at the adult for approval and he was happy to be enthusiastically met with some.

"Yes, I was just about to say that," Toshi-san nodded. "Good thinking Young Iida."

Iida bowed his head dutifully before suggesting, "I'll go ahead and work my way back from that alleyway, I can get there quickly and you can trust me as the Class Rep to perform a thorough search for Y/n's property!"

With another nod of approval from Toshi-san, Iida activated his quirk and rapidly sped off until he was out of sight.

"All Might! Are you okay? Does Y/n suspect who you really are? I was worried the entire time she was left alone with you," Midoriya rambled.

"Calm down, I'm alright Midoriya, there was really nothing to worry about," Toshi-san reassured the boy.

Midoriya took a deep breath and regained his composure before he asked, "What happened there?"

"Y/n just needed to talk to someone and a safe space," said Toshi-san.

"Are you not concerned about being safe around her? She tried- no she succeeded in hurting you after all." Midoriya stared up at Toshi-san, his eyes full of distress.
