It's been a week since my family returned from their trip, and the house has been alive with their stories and laughter. Amidst all the chatter and warm chaos, I've had my own share of busy days preparing for the upcoming collaborator meeting in Hyderabad with Adrian. Our work dynamic is seamless, and though these preparations have been exhausting, the sharp wit Adrian brings to every interaction has made it surprisingly enjoyable. I just cant forget how romantic shit the last few days were with Adrian. I feel my cheeks heat up.
Now, as I meticulously pack my things into my luggage, the reality of the next three days begins to settle. No, this isn't a dramatic life change or a permanent move just a business trip. Yet, it feels significant, a stepping stone in my career.
The clock strikes 4pm , and as if on cue, I hear the faint sound of a car pulling up outside. My parents are seated in the living room, but Mama is the first to stand when I announce, "Adrian's here." She walks to the door with the curious enthusiasm she always has for guests, particularly ones she deems "respectable."
Adrian stands at the doorway, impeccably dressed in a tailored blazer and casual formal pants that strike the perfect balance between polished and approachable. His sharp features soften into a smile as he folds his hands slightly in a polite greeting. "Namaste, Uncle, Aunty," he says, his voice effortlessly smooth.
"Namaste, beta," Mama replies, giving him a quick once-over before nodding in approval. Dad follows suit, shaking Adrian's hand with a warm, formal grip.
"Adrian," Mama begins, gesturing for him to step inside, "before you go, you must take ashirbaad. It's good luck, and who doesn't need a little of that on a business trip?"
Adrian hesitates for a fraction of a second, glancing at me with a raised brow that screams Is this normal? I suppress a smile and shrug. Without missing another beat, he bows slightly to touch their feet, the gesture executed with an elegance that belies his initial hesitation.
"Bless you, beta," Mama says, visibly pleased. "And take care of Shayantika. She gets so absorbed in work she forgets the basics."
Adrian straightens and casts me a sly glance. "Don't worry, Aunty. I'll make sure she doesn't disappear into spreadsheets and emails without coming up for air. That's what I'm here for."
I narrow my eyes at him, my lips twitching in amusement. "I'm standing right here, you know."
"Yes," he replies with an easy smirk, "and I'm painfully aware of it."
We step outside, leaving my parents waving from the doorway as Adrian carries my luggage to the car. The evening air is crisp, and the soft glow of streetlights casts an amber hue over the driveway.
"Did you really have to charm my parents like that?" I ask as he opens the car door for me.
"It's not charm, Shayantika," he says, leaning in slightly, his tone playful. "It's just good manners. Though, if it makes you think I'm charming, I won't argue."
