Adrian Singhania
"Finally heading home tomorrow," Shayantika murmured, her voice trailing off as she absentmindedly twirled her fork in the untouched food on her plate. There was a flicker of sadness in her eyes, as though she wasn't entirely sure she was ready to leave. She glanced up at me, her face a mix of joy and a hint of melancholy, like the character Sadness from Inside Out wasn't quite in full control. Yes, Inside Out—the first animated movie I watched after becoming a CEO. It feels like ages since I've indulged in anything like that. But Shayantika had practically dragged me into it, saying,
"If you don't watch this with me, you're not sleeping with me tonight!"
She had that gleam of mischief in her eyes, and then she added with a smirk,
"It's a golden opportunity, Adrian. Don't miss out."
I chuckled at the memory, but then she snapped her fingers in front of my face, pulling me back to the present. "What are you thinking about?" she asked, resting her chin on her hand, eyes sparkling with playful intensity. I couldn't help but smile.
"I was just thinking about the time you twisted my arm to watch Inside Out," I teased.
She burst into laughter, her joy lighting up the room. "Did you like the movie, Adrian?" she asked, eyes wide with curiosity.
"It was pretty good," I replied, my tone dripping with teasing sarcasm. "Do you know why?"
I expected a cheeky comeback, something flirtatious, but instead, she gave me a grin that could disarm anyone. "Because you had a thing for Riley?" she guessed, raising an eyebrow as I let out a sigh, rolling my eyes playfully, poking my cheeks from inside.
"No," I said, reaching out to hold her hand gently, "because I watched it with you and almost fucked you." I say sounding cool at first and then horny. hehe
She elbowed me hard
"oww" I whimper
Her surprised expression softened into a silent 'Oh,' and for a moment, she was speechless. But then, her smile grew wider. "Well, if you liked it so much," she said, leaning in close, I was expecting a stunnign thriller on a sunday night only to hear "how about we watch Inside Out 2 together? It just came out!"
I pretended to groan, "No," I said, trying to keep a straight face as her smile faltered just a bit. Then I broke into a grin. "I'm kidding! Of course, I'll watch it with you."
"Really?!" she asked, her excitement bubbling over, almost in disbelief. I nodded, probably looking like the most hopeless romantic in the room. And in that moment, I finally understood why Ethan always looked a little exasperated whenever his girlfriend insisted on movie nights.
The snow outside was falling thick and heavy, turning Australia into a winter wonderland. Temperatures had dropped to a biting -7°C, making it the perfect setting for something romantic. We hadn't packed any proper winter clothes, so this morning, we bundled up as best we could with scarves and gloves before venturing out to buy some real winter gear. Afterward, we found ourselves in this cozy café, warming up with mugs of hot chocolate. And of course, we couldn't resist ordering their famous spaghetti.
The plates had long since been cleared, but we stayed at the table, lost in each other's company, the hot chocolate slowly disappearing from our cups. The snow outside painted the world in a serene white, and it felt like time itself had paused just for us. We were laughing over old memories when my phone buzzed on the table, snapping me out of the moment. I glanced at the screen—a call from my private investigation team back in India. The atmosphere shifted in an instant.
"I need to take this," I said to Shayantika, my voice turning serious. She nodded, her gaze full of quiet concern as I answered the call.
"Adrian here," I said, my tone steady.
"Sir," came the voice of my lead investigator, sounding more urgent than usual. "I thought you'd want to know: the case from the early 2000s has been reopened. We've found new evidence."
My heart raced, a thrill I hadn't felt in years shooting through me. "Are you serious?" I asked, barely able to contain my excitement.
"Yes, sir. It's solid enough to put the investigation back in motion. We'll need your guidance as we proceed." He says and then keeps silent and then continues again
"Your Team had helped us to reach out to the evidence. Thank your team for me plz sir."
I nod.
"I'll be in Mumbai tomorrow," I said, my words filled with a determination that felt almost foreign to me after all these years. I ended the call, unable to suppress the grin spreading across my face.
I turned back to Shayantika, who was watching me with those searching eyes of hers, a mix of curiosity and confusion. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice soft but insistent.
"I just got some big news," I said, leaning closer to her. "A case from the early 2000s, one that haunted me for years, it's been reopened."
"A case?" she repeated, her brow knitting together. "I had no idea you were involved in that sort of thing."
I nodded slowly, my mind already racing. "It was a cold case, one that I could never solve back when I used to work in a different line of business. I had to let it go when the trail went cold, but now there's new evidence. I finally have a chance to get answers to questions that have haunted me for years."
"before when I wanted to find the criminals I was too young." I run my hand through my hair knowing I maybe is confessing a lot.
"I will share it with you" I speak.
Her eyes widened in surprise and intrigue. "What kind of case was it?" she asked, almost in a whisper.
"It's complicated," I said, a shadow of the old frustration mingling with a renewed sense of purpose. "A mystery so tangled it almost ruined everything I knew. But if it's come back now, it's not by accident."
Shayantika reached out and placed her hand over mine, her eyes locked on mine with a blend of concern and admiration. "Whatever it is, I'm here for you," she said. "Looks like this snowy day brought more than just a bit of winter magic—it brought you a whole new adventure."
I squeezed her hand, grateful for her unwavering support. Little did I know, that unexpected call was just the beginning of a journey back into the shadows of my past, into a mystery that refused to let me go. As the snowflakes outside drifted like frozen moments, I knew my path was set—this was no longer just a case, it was my last shot at redemption.
"I promise you, Riya," I whispered to myself, staring out into the snowfall, "whether I love you or not, I will find you."
This wasn't merely a quest for answers—it was a fight to reclaim everything I'd lost. And as I stared at the falling snow, I realized that unlocking this mystery would unravel secrets far more dangerous than I ever imagined. This time, there would be no walking away—not for me, and not for anyone else who dared get too close to the truth.
