After a week..

The moment Shayantika stepped into my parents' home again, it felt like time folded in on itself. I had seen her countless times before, in fleeting moments and stolen glances, but this time was different this time, she was mine, truly and openly. My mother's eyes softened as she welcomed her, her smile carrying a thousand unspoken blessings. My father, however, leaned back in his chair, his gaze sharp and calculating, like he was weighing the future in his mind.

Dinner stretched into an unspoken ceremony. The silverware clinked, the chandeliers shimmered, but beneath the laughter and small talk, there was a tension—an anticipation I couldn't ignore. My sister, Anvika, kept stealing glances between us, smirking knowingly, while Shayantika blushed every time she caught her.

Finally, my mother cleared her throat. "Adrian," she said, her voice calm but firm. "We've waited long enough. You've found her, after all these years. Don't you think it's time we seal this bond before the world tries to take it away?"

I froze. The word lingered in the air—engagement.

Shayantika's fork paused mid-air. I felt her eyes dart toward me, uncertain, almost shy. A small part of me wanted to tell my parents to slow down, to give her space. But another part, the darker, selfish part burned at the thought of losing her again.

"Soon," my father added, his deep voice leaving no room for argument. "As soon as possible. We'll make the announcement publicly, and let the families know. It is time."

The air grew heavy. I reached under the table, finding her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. She looked at me then, her wide eyes shimmering with confusion, fear, and... something else. Trust.

But I knew what they didn't. What she didn't.
Loving me wasn't just about family dinners and grand mansions. Loving me meant stepping into shadows darker than any night. And before I could let her say yes to a future with me, she needed to know. She already knows.

That night, after everyone had retired and silence filled the halls, I led her through the side of the estate, the path no guest was ever allowed to take. She followed me without question, though I could feel her curiosity pressing against my back like a weight.

The door opened with a creak, revealing the underbelly of my world: dimly lit corridors, walls lined with monitors showing movements across the city, men in black suits whispering into radios, and the faint hum of weapons locked away behind glass.

"This," I said quietly, my voice carrying the weight of years I had never shared with anyone outside my bloodline, "is who I am.."

She looked around, her lips parting slightly, taking in everything. "Adrian... this is..."

"Dangerous. Ruthless. Bloody." My jaw tightened. "My family doesn't just own businesses, Shayantika. We control. We protect. We rule in shadows where the law cannot reach. And if you choose me... you choose this."
