stolen moments - the vamps
"Reece was not at my house last night," I told Shayla admantly. "Now, can we move on? This is getting ridiculous."
"I just have one more question," Shayla started, her voice taking a more playful tone as she stuck up her index finger. I gave her a look that allowed her to proceed. "Do you like him?"
She looked at me expectantly with a smirk on her face, and I pursed my lips preparing myself for the denial, but I think I took too long to answer.
"You do! Oh my gOSH," she shrieked and I frantically covered her mouth with my hand. We'd been talking quietly and the music was still playing, but surely Reece would be able to hear us screaming.
"Shut up!" I groaned, a bashful smile breaking onto my face.
"I knew it," Shay remarked cockily, "and your face just then said it all." I rolled my eyes at her. "Wait, so.. what about Blake?" I frowned at the mention.
"I don't know," I sighed truthfully. "Blake is so sweet, and cute... and hot... and I've liked him for ages... I just, I don't know."
"Well, I'm on your side, obviously--whatever you decide--but, be careful, Ren. They're best friends and things are already weird between them right now because of the George thing."
"Yeah, I'm well aware," I laughed defeatedly.
"I can't tell you what to do, Ren. But Reece... he's... complicated. Blake's not, and he really likes you. You two seemed to have a good thing going. I'd just be wary of throwing that away for the chance of something that's bound to be messy with Reece."
I frowned slightly. She'd just told me Reece seemed happier than usual. His parents said he seemed more himself with me. Reece told me it felt like I understood him in a way no one else did. I felt myself getting slightly annoyed with Shay; if she could see this, then why was she practically telling me to go for Blake instead? Was I missing something? I decided I didn't want to think about it anymore, so I took the opportunity to change the subject.
"Speaking of messy, you said George was acting weird? What's that about?"
"Oh, right." Shay sighed. "I think it's fine, he's just a bit squirrely about seeing Reece and the party tonight. It is a bit strange, huh? Just acting like everything's normal..."
"Well, fake it til ya make it, right?" I teased.
"Right," she giggled. "Maybe if we act like it's normal enough, it actually will be."
"And alcohol will help."
"Or make things ten times worse..."
We exchanged a look before we both started laughing. We were in for an interesting night.
"Speaking of alcohol," Shay started. "We still need some for tonight."
"Right. You gonna send Reece on a mission, then?" I laughed.
"Obviously." Reece was the only one of us who was eighteen already. Shayla picked up her phone, glancing at it briefly. "Okay it's nearly 4:00 right now, so George and Blake will be here at 7:00... you and I should definitely start getting ready before then because I'm sure they'll need our help with their costumes," she giggled. "but it's still early, so we've got some time to kill." She looked at me with an eyebrow raised. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Horror movie?" I smirked.
"Horror movie." She nodded, heading for the door. I followed behind her as she stopped outside Reece's room.
