"Good God," Cecil shook his head. "I never thought I'd live to see the day, Nolan."

"Well, first time for everything Cecil," Omni Man grimaced as he clutched his side. The hospital run by the Global Defense Agency had been his home away from home for the past week. The secret tyrant was thankful his superiors from Viltrum were not here to see him in this pathetic state.

"Someone actually took you down. Hard. And they just had to take the rest of the Guardians with them."

"I've already told you everything that happened, Cecil," Omni Man said with an edge in his voice.

"Can you please not make my husband relive it?" Debbie asked.

"Yes, of course," Cecil sighed. "I'm just having a hard time processing all of this myself."

Cecil then turned to Mark, who was still in his golden-blue superhero costume. Though at the moment, it was still red with blood from the battle in New York.

"Mark, you've done a good job guarding our doorstep, but sadly the battle isn't over. Those alien freaks will be back again, without a doubt. I'm sure you'll make your father proud."

"Thank you, sir," Mark said, his lip quivering for a split second before he stifled the emotion.

"Well, I'll leave all of you alone to recuperate," Cecil nodded.

"Does your team have any leads yet on who attacked my husband and his friends?" Debbie said as Cecil got up to leave the room.

"Co-workers," Omni Man muttered under his breath.

Cecil heard Omni Man's words, but chose to refrain from addressing it.

"Not yet," he replied. "But we will have a lead soon. No one can outwit us for long."

"Sure thing, you meddlesome insect," Omni Man thought to himself as Cecil shut the door.

As Debbie tended to his wounds yet again, Omni Man smiled at her and leaned his head back into the hospital pillow. His plan was now in motion. Earth would either fall in line, or be destroyed. In but a few months, he'd be able to tell Mark and Kaori the truth about their heritage. And no one would be able to stand in his way.

And yet, even as Omni Man contemplated his next move, another nagging thought kept interrupting his musings. There was one loose end he'd need to make sure not to leave undone. One he would need to treat with just as much importance as talking to Mark and Kaori.

A certain weakling who had the potential to infect his children with his human sentimentality if Omni Man didn't keep him in line.

What was his name again?

Ah yes.

Kousei Arima.

..............................

"Do I have to?" Kousei groaned.

"Yes, you do," Kaori grinned.

"But I already have six giant bags hanging from my shoulders."

"Pretty please, Friend A?" Kaori said, batting her eyelashes at her newly christened boyfriend.

"Do you even have enough yen to buy this?"

"Hey, I recently cheated death and have had to study for a bunch of boring make-up exams okay? It's not every day my mom gives me this big of an allowance."

"Fair enough," Kousei chuckled. "But this item is something you're carrying."

Kaori agreed, and the new couple approached the checkout stand to pay for Kaori's last item. What was this item she coveted?
