I am from the town of Soloma. Soloma in my language, K'anjobal, means no security. Located in the cradle of the valley, it was destroyed by earthquakes in 1773 and 1902, half the city was burned in 1884 and was decimated by smallpox in 1885. The Judge of the Royal Audencia of Guatemala (Don Alonso Zurita) visited and ordered the people of San Andrés, San Sebastian, San Miguel and San Francisco Soloma to gather under one people and name; San Pedro Soloma. It is named after the patron saint Peter the apostle.
Guatemala is divided into 22 departments and 335 municipalities. The departments are similar to what states are like in the United States. In fact, I believe the entire country of Guatemala is close in size to Tennessee. Soloma is in the department of Huehuetenango and the Municipality of San Pedro. It is a beautiful area with a growing economy. The majority of the people are Mayan Indians with small amount of non-mayans living in the area.
