"Husband, why are you holding me?"

"They crashed our car; don't they want compensation?"

"If you can stand this, I can't!"

Zhang Xiaoli, the heavily made-up woman, wrenched free of her husband's grasp and glared at Ning Cheng.

"The girl beside me was talking. There was a brief pause at a red light. It didn't disrupt traffic much, did it?" Ning Cheng said calmly.

"If you're behind and anticipate a jam, honk, don't overtake!" Ning Cheng retorted. "You overtook and damaged both our cars. The responsibility lies with you!"

"Why me?" Zhang Xiaoli demanded, sneering. "No compensation? My mother has your surname!" She pulled out her phone. "I know people at the traffic police and city bureau! I'll call, and you'll be liable for damages, and lose your license!"

"I doubt it," Ye Wanzhou countered, her usual meekness gone. She wouldn't tolerate this woman's arrogance. Zhang Xiaoli's threat to call connections only solidified Ye Wanzhou's resolve. If this woman, driving a luxury car, pulled strings, Ye Wanzhou would expose her. A reporter's integrity demanded it.

"Me neither," Ning Cheng agreed.

"Fine! I'll call and see what happens!" Zhang Xiaoli furiously dialed a number.

Just then, Xie Wen, Zhang Xiaoli's husband, roared at someone, "Enough! Are you finished?"

Zhang Xiaoli stared, bewildered by her husband's grim expression.

"We overtook and collided. It was our fault!" Xie Wen said, watching Ning Cheng carefully. "They apologized. You're still being aggressive. This is our fault!"

"Xiaoli, what are you doing?"

"Husband—we have a new Bentley! They have to compensate!"

"Do you still want to argue?"

Slap!

Zhang Xiaoli stared, incredulous. Xie Wen, usually hot-headed, never hit her, especially not in front of others. This drastic change hinted at something significant.

Zhang Xiaoli, clutching her face, looked at Ning Cheng. "I'm sorry. My girlfriend has a bad temper. If we offended you..."

Xie Wen handed over a business card. "This is my card. I'm responsible. Call me for compensation."

Ning Cheng shook his head. "I don't need it. My friend will handle it."

Xie Wen's eyes kept returning to Ning Cheng's wristwatch—a Patek Philippe limited edition. Its value rivaled his Bentley. The poor play with cars; the rich, with watches. Someone who owned a three-million-dollar watch was far more influential. They weren't in the same league. That's why Xie Wen caved, even slapping his girlfriend.

Ye Wanzhou, stunned, had been ready to record the unfolding drama, but the situation resolved unexpectedly.

"No, my car's insured," Ye Wanzhou said, declining the offer.

Watching them drive away, Zhang Xiaoli, touching her swollen face, asked, "What did I do wrong?"

Xie Wen glared. "You're blind! You dared to act up without seeing who they were?"

"They were driving a BMW. What's so great?"

"Blind! That BMW is nothing. But look at the man!" Xie Wen grabbed her collar. "That watch is a Patek Philippe, worth at least three million—more than my Bentley! You idiot! I should have hit you harder!"

"A Patek Philippe?" Zhang Xiaoli gasped. "The Starry Sky watch? Did he buy a fake?"

"You're the fool who'd buy a fake! You don't know how terrifying he was!" Xie Wen swallowed, remembering Ning Cheng's demeanor. "I've met Fortune 500 CEOs, but none had that presence. It made me tremble."

Xie Wen's uncertainty grew. Ning Cheng's composure—unflappable, like someone who'd weathered every storm—was intimidating.

"Do you think someone like that wears a fake?" Xie Wen asked angrily.

"But he's so young," Zhang Xiaoli mumbled, unconvinced.

"Young? That's even scarier! It's not something we can afford!"

"I didn't see it. Weren't they afraid of you calling someone?"

"If you called, you might be buried by him!"

"You've taken over all my connections later on."

...

"Thank you, Ning Cheng," Ye Wanzhou said, smiling.

"For what?"

"Don't pretend! That woman was arrogant, and that man wasn't easy. If it weren't for you, I'd be in trouble." She chuckled. "His attitude changed after looking at you. I don't know what he saw, but it was because of you."

Ning Cheng shook his head. "It's nothing. Maybe..."

"I'm a reporter. My observation skills aren't as good as yours, but I'm better at reading people than most."

Ning Cheng smiled and didn't explain.

"This western restaurant! Their steak is amazing!"

Just as they were about to go, Ning Cheng received a call from the police station—Zhou Ziyan.

"Team Zhou?"

"Major robbery at Jiangcheng Bank. We need your help!" Zhou Ziyan's voice was urgent.

"Robbery?" Ning Cheng's eyes narrowed.

"Over a dozen robbers, holding nearly twenty hostages. You're excellent at negotiation. We need you now!"

"Okay, I'm on my way."

Ning Cheng got into Ye Wanzhou's BMW. "Can I borrow your car?"

"What happened?"

"Major robbery. Hostages. I need to go to the bank."

"The mission's important!" Ye Wanzhou understood. Ning Cheng's negotiation skills were crucial.

"I'll give you the keys, but I'm coming too!"

Ning Cheng hesitated, but Ye Wanzhou insisted, "I'm a reporter. I have a responsibility to report this."

"Fine," Ning Cheng said, driving to the bank.

Half an hour later, they arrived. The area was blocked off, police officers were positioned, and the situation looked dire.
