Ned couldn't have been more thankful to be able to settle down with his daughters upon his arrival, and even more thankful that and as he made his way to the the Small Council room, although he couldn't resist the urge to enter the throne room to see just how much it had changed since the last time he was there.

However, as soon as he entered the Throne Room, Ned was utterly surprised the lack of Valyrian items adorning the large hall, instead where there should have been Valryian items, items of the Faith stood.

"Thank the Gods you're here, Stark."Jaime Lannister claimed, his voice dripping with false happiness that even Ned could sense, "About time we had some stern Northern leadership."

Ned stopped at the foot of the Throne, allowing Jaime to approach him "Glad to see you're protecting the Throne." Ned replied in false kindness.

"Sturdy old thing. How many king's asses have polished it, I wonder?" Jaime questioned in faux curiosity, "And what's the line? The King shits and the Hand wipes."

A younger Ned Stark would've laughed in Jaime's face, but in all honesty, after what happened with Arya at Ruby Ford, the little liking he had for the Lannisters vanished.

"Very handsome armour, not a scratch on it." Ned pointed out, trying to make polite conversation.

"I know." Jaime acknowledged with a smug look, "People have been swinging at me for years but they always seem to miss."

Ned had to hold back a snort, remembering very well how Aemma looked ready to strike Jaime down at Ruby Ford, and while Ned didn't know the reason for Aemma's wrath with the Lannister twins, he found it amusing as he remembered the tales of the happenings of when Aemma picked up a blade, and he remembered the retelling of how Robert got a scar from her. Which was why Ned acknowledged Jaime's words by saying "You've chosen your opponents wisely, then."

"I have a knack for it." Jaime replied with a look of disdain on his face before he looked Ned up and down as if sizing him up.

"Must be strange for you, coming into this room. I'm standing right where here when it happened. He was very brave, your brother. And your father too. They didn't deserve to die like that. Nobody deserves to die like that." Jaime taunted.

"But you just stood there and watched." Ned remarked in a low tone.

"Five hundred men just stood there and watched. All the great knights of the Seven Kingdoms, you think anyone said a word? Lifted a finger? No, Lord Stark. Five hundred men and this room was nearly as silent as a crypt, of course, the screaming and the Mad King laughing." Jaime recounted.
