Jeongguk stared at those glowing eyes inside the trees.
"Get inside, hyung," Jeongguk said firmly as he stepped forward, shielding Taehyung behind him. His body tensed, every nerve alert, as his sharp gaze locked onto the threatening eyes.
"Gguk, I'll call Yoongi-hyung and Bogum—"
"No, hyung," Jeongguk interrupted, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Just go inside. Now."
Taehyung hesitated, his instincts screaming to stay and protect Jeongguk. But the trust in Jeongguk's voice made him falter. "Promise me you'll come back," he said, his voice trembling.
Jeongguk turned his head slightly, his gaze softening as it met Taehyung's. "I'll handle it. Trust me, hyung."
Reluctantly, Taehyung retreated into the house, the door shutting with a quiet thud behind him.
The moment he was alone, Jeongguk's body shifted. Muscles rippled beneath his skin, bones cracking and reforming as black fur erupted across his frame.
His shirt shredded instantly, falling in tatters to the ground, while his pants tore apart at the seams. Barefooted moments ago, his human form was gone—replaced by a massive black wolf, taller and more menacing than most.
His Crimson eyes burned with fury as a guttural growl escaped his throat. His wolf, Justin, Growled, the sound deep and commanding.
One by one, the rogues emerged from the shadows, their eyes gleaming with malice. Five wolves stood before him, their teeth bared and their hunger unmistakable.
The largest rogue charged first, teeth snapping as it lunged straight for Jeongguk.
But Jeongguk sidestepped effortlessly, slamming his shoulder into the rogue's ribs with enough force to send it crashing to the ground.
Before it could recover, Jeongguk was on it, his powerful jaws clamping down on its throat. A sickening crunch echoed in the air as the rogue went limp.
The others hesitated but quickly regrouped, circling Jeongguk with calculated movements. Two wolves attacked simultaneously—one lunging for his flank, the other for his legs.
Jeongguk spun with blinding speed, his claws raking across the first rogue's chest. It yelped in pain, stumbling back, but the second rogue managed to sink its teeth into Jeongguk's hind leg.
Jeongguk roared, twisting his massive body to throw the rogue off him. He countered with a vicious swipe, his claws tearing through its fur and into its flesh.
The rogue whined, stumbling backward, blood dripping from its wounds.
The remaining two rogues exchanged a glance, their resolve faltering. They darted forward in a desperate attack, but Jeongguk met them head-on.
He leaped, his massive form colliding with both rogues at once. His jaws clamped down on one, while his claws slashed at the other. It was over in seconds.
As silence fell, Jeongguk stood among the fallen rogues, his black fur matted with blood. His chest heaved as he surveyed the carnage, his Crimson eyes burning with quiet fury. Justin growled inwardly.
Jeongguk shifted back, his human form returning in a smooth transformation. Blood stained his skin, and he stood completely bare, his shredded clothes scattered around him.
He grabbed one of the scraps from the ground and wiped his hands clean, unbothered by his nakedness, but he wrapped his shredded shirt around his waist.
When he stepped back into the house, Taehyung was waiting for him by the door, his eyes scanning Jeongguk's body with worry.
"You're hurt," Taehyung said, his voice quiet but soft.
Jeongguk shook his head. "It's their blood," he replied, his tone steady.
Taehyung frowned, stepping closer. "You could've—"
"I didn't," Jeongguk cut in, his gaze softening as he looked at Taehyung. "Hyung, I told you. I'll protect you. Always."
Taehyung sighed, as his heart was beating fast , worried about his 'mate' "Thank you," he whispered.
Jeongguk didn't respond. His sharp gaze turned toward the forest again, a flicker of something darker in his eyes.
"This was just the beginning," he muttered.
Taehyung felt the weight of the storm that was about to descend upon them.
"What happened? There was some sort of noise outside?" Hoseok asked groggily, rubbing his eyes as he staggered into the room. The alcohol he had consumed with the others made his steps unsteady, and his voice carried a drowsy, carefree tone.
"It's nothing, hyung," Jeongguk replied, trying to sound calm, though his posture remained defensive.
Hoseok's gaze shifted to Jeongguk, his eyes narrowing as he noticed his bare state. "Wait... why is this kid naked? Did you two perhaps—"
Before Hoseok could finish his drunken insinuation, Jeongguk moved swiftly, his fist connecting with Hoseok's face. The older man stumbled backward and collapsed onto the floor, unconscious, the impact silencing him immediately.
"Gguk!" Taehyung shouted, rushing to Hoseok's side. He knelt down, his hands trembling slightly as he checked Hoseok. "Did you just punch Hoseok-hyung?!"
Jeongguk scoffed, crossing his arms as he looked down at the scene. "He was saying nonsense," he said flatly, his tone unapologetic.
"That doesn't mean you can hit him!" Taehyung scolded, glaring up at Jeongguk.
"He's drunk. He won't even remember it tomorrow," Jeongguk muttered, brushing off Taehyung's concern as if it were no big deal.
Taehyung sighed, torn between frustration and disbelief. "This is so reckless—"
"Reckless is letting him keep talking like that," Jeongguk interrupted, his voice sharp before softening slightly. "Look, hyung, I'll deal with him in the morning. For now, you're sleeping in my room"
Taehyung blinked at him. "What? Why—"
"Because I'll feel better knowing you're safe and comfortable," Jeongguk said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument. "I'll sleep on the couch. End of discussion."
Taehyung stared at him, caught off guard by the protectiveness in Jeongguk's voice. Though his words were harsh, there was something undeniably sincere about them.
With a soft sigh, Taehyung relented. "Fine, but we're talking about this in the morning. And you're apologizing to Hoseok-hyung."
Jeongguk shrugged, already heading for upstairs . "If he remembers, I'll think about it."
Taehyung shook his head, muttering to himself as he helped Hoseok into a more comfortable position on the floor.
Despite the chaos, he couldn't deny the small flicker of warmth in his chest at Jeongguk's concern, even if the younger one's methods were... questionable.
"Our mate is so silly—"
"Shut up Luna, he is becoming worse day by day, I really miss that 6 years old ggukie"
"And you secretly love this one"
"oh Luna, you have no idea." Taehyung shook his head as he sighed softly and walked to stairs.
