Sick: Izuku
Caretaker: Iida, Aizawa
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Izuku Midoriya woke up with a strange heaviness in his body. His skin felt unnaturally warm, and there was a dull ache in his head that made it hard to think clearly. But no matter how sluggish and disoriented he felt, he knew one thing: he couldn't afford to miss a day. His grades were riding on it.
"I'll be fine," he muttered to himself, his voice scratchy as he pushed himself out of bed. He wiped his forehead, noting how damp his skin felt, but he ignored it. "I just need to push through."
He hurried through his morning routine, moving through the motions despite the fogginess clouding his thoughts. Every step felt like a struggle, but he knew he had to go to school. He couldn't afford to let his classmates down—or worse, fall behind on his studies.
By the time he made it to school, his body felt like it was burning up. He didn't know if it was nerves, stress, or something more, but there was a thick heaviness in his chest, and his vision swam with each glance at the chalkboard. He could feel the heat radiating from his skin, but he just pushed it down, chalking it up to the usual exhaustion.
As the day dragged on, Izuku found it harder to concentrate. His body ached as though he'd run a marathon, and his throat felt tight, as if he was coming down with a cold. But he ignored it, because that's what he always did. He had to keep going.
Finally, gym class arrived, and Izuku thought he might actually be able to enjoy something for once. But as he moved to the changing rooms, he could feel the familiar weakness creeping through his muscles. His arms felt sore, and his legs seemed to drag with every step.
"I'll just change quickly," Izuku muttered under his breath, trying to shake off the exhaustion. He walked into the locker room and pulled off his uniform shirt to get into his gym clothes, not noticing the way his body seemed to burn even hotter the moment the fabric came off.
Iida, who had been changing nearby, looked over and noticed something strange. His eyes narrowed in concern as he spotted the small, red dots scattered across Izuku's back. They were so faint at first, but as Iida observed more closely, he realized they covered a large portion of Izuku's skin. They weren't there before. The pattern was strange, and they seemed to be increasing.
"Izuku," Iida said, his voice edged with worry. "What are those on your back?"
Izuku froze mid-motion, feeling a sudden wave of panic. He quickly turned, trying to hide his back from Iida's view. "W-What are you talking about?" he stammered, forcing a smile. "It's nothing, Iida. Probably just a rash or something."
Iida wasn't convinced. He stepped closer, his face serious as he scrutinized the small red spots. "Midoriya, those look like something more than a rash. Are you sure you're okay?"
Izuku's mind raced as he tried to come up with a convincing excuse. He didn't want to worry his friends. "It's really nothing," Izuku insisted, a little too forcefully. "I'm fine. Probably just from the heat, you know?"
But Iida was persistent, not buying it. "No, Midoriya. You need to take care of yourself. Let me see your back properly."
Izuku bit his lip, trying to push back the anxiety building in his chest. He was feeling dizzy, but he didn't want to stop the day just yet. "I'll be fine, Iida, I swear."
But Iida wasn't letting it go. "You should go check it out. There's something wrong. If you don't, I'll tell Aizawa-sensei."
Izuku's stomach churned with dread. He really didn't want to make a big deal out of this, but he could see from Iida's expression that there was no way to brush it off.
"Alright... I'll check it out. But it's really nothing, okay?" Izuku forced a smile, but it felt thin and hollow.
Iida didn't look convinced, but he stepped back and nodded. "Alright. But don't ignore it, Midoriya. You're not invincible."
Izuku quickly exited the changing room and walked to the nearby bathroom, his head spinning with each step. He could feel the weight of the spots on his back, and with a sinking feeling, he knew that something wasn't right.
The bathroom mirror reflected the exhaustion in his face. When he turned around to look at his back, he immediately regretted it. The small, red spots weren't just scattered anymore. They had spread, covering his upper back in a strange, uneven pattern. His skin felt hot and sensitive to the touch, and the more he looked, the worse it seemed.
"What... what is this?" Izuku whispered to himself, a sense of dread creeping up his spine. He could feel his head spinning, and his vision blurred for a moment as a wave of dizziness overtook him. The red spots weren't just a rash. His body felt like it was on fire, and he realized with a sickening certainty that he wasn't fine.
He turned away from the mirror, his chest tightening as the room seemed to spin. He didn't have time to process what was happening. He needed to get back to Iida and pretend everything was normal. He quickly put his gym shirt back on, trying to ignore the burning sensation in his skin.
When he returned to the gym, Iida immediately noticed his flushed face and the way he was staggering slightly. "Midoriya..." Iida said, his voice laced with concern. "You're not okay. What's going on?"
"It's... nothing, really," Izuku muttered, forcing a smile. But his body was starting to fail him. "I'll be fine. I just need to get through the day."
Iida's worried gaze didn't leave him. "I'm telling Aizawa-sensei," he said firmly. "I'm not letting you go through this alone."
Before Izuku could protest, Iida was already rushing to Aizawa, telling him about the strange spots and how pale Izuku looked. Aizawa's expression immediately shifted from tired to concerned as he walked over to Izuku, who was still standing in the center of the gym, trying to keep it together.
"Midoriya," Aizawa said, his tone flat but serious, "sit down. You're not looking well."
"I'm fine, Aizawa-sensei," Izuku protested weakly, but the dizziness in his head made him sway on his feet.
"No, you're not," Aizawa said, his voice unwavering. "Sit down. Now."
Izuku tried to keep his balance, but his vision blurred again, and before he could respond, his knees gave out. He collapsed to the floor with a sharp gasp.
"Izuku!" Iida shouted, kneeling beside him, his face pale with worry. "What's happening to you?!"
Aizawa immediately bent down to check Izuku's pulse, his frown deepening. "Get him to Recovery Girl. Fast."
---
Recovery Girl's office was quiet except for the sound of the nurse gently tapping her pen on a clipboard. Izuku was lying on a cot, feeling utterly exhausted. His head felt heavy, and the red spots still burned on his skin, but it was clear now that he was in no condition to continue pretending everything was fine.
"Hm," Recovery Girl said as she examined Izuku's back, clicking her tongue. "Scarlet fever. You've overexerted yourself, Midoriya."
Izuku blinked in confusion. "Scarlet fever? But I... I thought that was something kids get?"
"It's rare, but not impossible," Recovery Girl replied, her tone gentle but firm. "You've been pushing your body too hard lately. This infection has caught up with you. No training, no school, no more overworking yourself. I'm giving you some antibiotics, and I want you to rest. I mean it, Midoriya."
Izuku felt a pang of guilt, but he nodded weakly, realizing just how much he had been ignoring his own body.
Aizawa, standing by the door, crossed his arms and gave Izuku a pointed look. "No more excuses, Midoriya. Rest, or I'll make sure you rest."
Iida stood next to Izuku, placing a hand on his shoulder with a small, reassuring smile. "We'll help you catch up on everything, don't worry. Just focus on getting better."
Izuku smiled back faintly, feeling the warmth of his friends' concern. Maybe for once, it was okay to take a step back and focus on his health. He closed his eyes, letting the sleepiness pull him under, knowing he didn't have to face it alone.
