"Damn." Mikey whispered to himself, his eyes on the road in front of Alexandria. "Its only been an hour," Ron replied, his arms crossed as he stood in the watch stand. "Feels like twenty," he declared as he sat down in his chair. How exactly Ron had ended up with the misfortune of keeping night watch with Mikey, he didn't know.

Ron sighed and set next to his friend. "So..." Mikey started, already knowing what he wanted to say. "What?" Ron already sounded disappointed. "Was there uh.. any cute girls at the sanctuary?" he predictably asked. "I won't tell Carl," he added with a smirk.

"Are you.. no, you couldn't be," Ron's disappointment grew. "Are you asking if I cheated on my husband?" Now he was getting upset. "No! Hell no! Thinking a girl is cute isn't cheating. And he wasn't your husband then," Mikey tried to justify his question. "Well, one: I would never think someone eles besides Carl is cute. Two: he might not have been my husband, but he was still my boyfriend. And three: no. All the women there were like fifteen years older than me. Oh, and to add four, I don't like girls." Ron explained himself.

"Ohhh, older women," Mikey's smile returned. "Oh my god," Ron whispered to himself as he shook his head. The two boys were quiet for a moment, listening to the crickets and leaves in wind.

"So.. I was talking to Enid. She totally has a secret boyfriend or something." Mikey declared confidently. "What? No way. Who?" Ron asked, surprised by this idea. "Secret boyfriend would imply I don't know who it is, genius. She just got this smile, you know?" He explained.

"Wow. I wonder who it is." Ron said quietly. Mikey sighed. "This feels like when you and Carl were fucking behind my back." He declared. "Behind your back? You knew we were together before we ever had sex." Ron claimed, his arms crossed. "Shhh! I don't wanna hear about that, buddy." He answered, not interested in that conversation.

"But.. speaking of Carl, how's the marriage been?" He added after a second. "Perfect. He's perfect. The marriage has definitely been consummated." Ron said proudly. "Its been.. what? What the fuck does that mean?" Mikey asked, clearly confused. Ron laughed. "To consummate a marriage is like... to have sex. That consummates a marriage." He explained the word to his friend.

"Oh my god. Did I not just tell you I didn't wanna hear about that stuff?" Mikey laughed with Ron. "You asked," he smiled. "Not really," he whispered. Ron leaned back in chair, closing his eyes for a second.

——

A kick to his chair startled Ron awake. It was still dark, Rick standing over him now. "Sleeping on the job?" Rick asked, his arms crossed. "Sorry." Ron whispered as he sat up. "Sorry isn't going to help when someone breaks in here" Rick sighed. He sat down next to the boy. He was taking Mikey shift now. Ron was supposed to stay on for a few more hours.

Ron didn't say anything else. He knew Rick was right. He had no point in arguing. The two sat quietly for a while.

"How are you and Carl doing?" Rick finally spoke. He looked over at his son in law. Ron smiled a nodded. "Good. Great. You raised a really great guy." He declared. Rick smiled back. "He's a good kid." He proudly replied. "You are too, Ron." He added, patting his shoulder. "Thanks. I try." He replied.

"It's more than trying. I'm glad Carl has you, really. It makes me feel better about getting old. He's lucky to have you looking out for him." Rick assured the boy. Ron smiled again. "I'm the lucky one." He claimed. Carl had definitely saved his life before.

Ron looked down at the ring on his finger. He wore it with a lot of pride. Who wouldn't be proud to be married to the best man in the world?

"I don't think anyone would argue with you on that." Rick joked, referring to his immunity. "How's Negan doing lately?" He added. Now Ron was thinking of the lecture he had gotten for breaking him out of his cell. "He's hard to tell sometimes. I think he's happy, though. As much as he can be." He replied, not making eye contact. He knew Rick wasn't a fan of Negan.

"You two planning any more great escapes?" He said, his tone a joking one. Ron smiled and shook his head. "I think we're pretty set here." He claimed. "And I wouldn't go too far without Carl." He added. "I'm afraid he'd follow you anywhere." Rick declared. He was sure Carl was deep enough in love with Ron to go anywhere he did. Ron smiled. "Yeah.. I think so." He happily replied. He, in turn, would follow Carl to the ends of the earth.

——

"Wake up, lazy." Ron teased as he unlocked the cell door. In his hand was negans breakfast. The man set up. "What time is it?" He asked. "Um.. six, maybe?" He shrugged as he sat the plate down. "Ronnie.. I don't have anywhere to be. Why the hell would I get up at six in the morning?" He asked the boy.

Ron shrugged. "Because that's when I brought your food. Don't you wanna hangout?" He said, sitting on the floor. "Sure, we can hangout. We can sleep together." Negan declared, still half asleep. The implications of his words were not even caught by him, and Negan never missed something even vaguely dirty.

"Oh, wow. Well I'm flattered. If only I wasn't married." Ron sighed. "Hell no. Don't twist my words like that, kiddo." He was wide awake now. "You're a baby. You're basically my baby, too." He added. "I'm your baby? I'm not sure Carl will like that." Ron laughed. "Just shut up." He sighed. He was too tired for this

Ron reached down and took some of Negans food. He ate the tomato before he spoke. "You know... what ever happened with your wives? I'm like, the only person who visits you." He said as he ate more of his food. "I see Laura sometimes. Arat too. I've seen Regina once or twice. As for my wives, well, not a peep." He laughed. "You know that's the only food I get, right? I don't have the freedom to go do whatever I want like you." He added as he watched Ron eat.

"Oh.. sorry." He replied, sliding the plate over to him. The two were quiet for a moment. "Damn. We really fell far, huh?" Ron pointed out. "So fucking far I think we ended up in hell." Negan agreed. Ron laughed. "I'm sure we'll end up there eventually." He declared.

The two of them sure weren't going to heaven.

Update on this story -

I really love this story. It's one of my favorite I ever wrote after Whispers Into Screams.

As I'm sure you can tell by the lack of updates I kind of lost the spark for this story. It's not because I don't love these characters and this storyline. It's more that I don't want to continue this story through the traditional walking dead storyline.

I have no plans for the whisperers or the commonwealth that make it worth writing. While Negan is involved in those storylines, I can't think of anywhere to place Carl and Ron.

However, I had a an idea of a different, non traditional twd story for this book. It has something to due with the kingdom and some of the walking dead game storyline. I'm not sure if I'll post that story here or if I'll make a sequel book yet.

I am currently working on rewriting this story completely, though. This time it will start from when Carl arrives in Alexandria and he meets Ron. Hopefully it will be much better than this one was :)

I hope you'll read the continuation of this story whether I post here or on a new book. Thanks for reading at all !! <3
