The TARDIS materializes with a familiar groan, its presence startlingly mundane on the grassy verge of a quiet suburban street. The Doctor bounds out first, his coat flapping behind him as he strides purposefully onto the pavement, his eyes darting about. The Alchemist is quick to follow, Donna right behind her with a strained smile as she watches the Time Lords frantically look around.
"It's fine. Everything's fine. Nothing's wrong. All fine!" he mutters unconvincingly before spotting a milkman unloading his truck; the Doctor raises a hand, "Excuse me. What day is it?"
The milkman blinks, momentarily startled by the interruption, "Saturday."
"Saturday!" the Doctor repeats, his voice lifting with forced cheer, "Good. Good. I like Saturdays."
"June 28th, 2008," the Time Lady says, looking up at the clear sky, "That's a good day."
The Doctor tilts his head toward her, curious, "Why's it a good day, then?"
"'Cause I said so, love," she replies simply, her tone light but firm.
"Fair enough," the Doctor shrugs.
"So, I just met Rose Tyler?" Donna asks, her voice laced with disbelief.
"Yeah," the Doctor and the Alchemist answer curtly.
"But she's locked away in a parallel world," Donna presses.
"Exactly," the Doctor says, spinning on his heel to face her, "If she can cross from her parallel world to your parallel world, then that means the walls of the universe are breaking down, which puts everything in danger. Everything," he shakes his head, turning to his wife, "But how?"
"She's the cause of this entire thing," the Alchemist cuts in sharply, stepping past them and back into the TARDIS.
The Doctor exchanges a wary glance with Donna before following the Alchemist inside. Donna trails after them, her questions mounting.
[TARDIS]
Inside, the Alchemist's expression is grim as she turns to face them. The Doctor raises a hand, covering Donna's mouth to let his Bondmate explain uninterrupted.
"It's a paradox," she says evenly, though her tone carries an edge of anger, "Because she insulted Victoria, because Torchwood continued, it happened. She went to the other universe. She's the one who created the void breaches that backfired through time, that allowed us entry into the other universe, and that allowed the Cult of Skaro back through to ours. It's all because of her; this mess is her doing."
The Doctor's face is stricken, "Conclusive?"
Her gaze softens as she looks at him, nodding, "Conclusive."
The Time Lord lowers his hand from Donna's mouth.
"The thing is," Donna begins, her voice hesitant, "No matter what's happening, and I'm sure it's bad—I get that—but Rose is coming back. Isn't that worse? She was your friend once, but not anymore, right? I mean, you three fell out ages ago, and people don't just fix that overnight."
The Alchemist's voice is clipped in her reply, "No, you don't. Her coming back is awful, Donna."
"And when Ally has a conclusion, it's usually not good," the Doctor adds gravely, "And this is very, very bad, Donna. This... This is catastrophic. Rose has made a horrific mistake on both counts."
A sudden, violent bang interrupts them, rocking the TARDIS on its axis.
"What the hell was that?" Donna cries, clinging to the nearest support.
