Later that week, they were back for another shift.
"Morning, morning, morning." Olivia said cheerfully as she walked into the common room.
"Right peeps of truck 81, with Casey away at the seminar, I'm in charge for the shift. After Boden's briefing we're going to start with equipment checks." Olivia told her people as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"And for those of you who aren't already aware...and if you aren't, where the hell have you been because it's all I've been talking about recently, we will have someone shadowing us on shift today. Travis is coming for a visit and Boden has signed off on him riding on truck for the day." Olivia said happily as she held the warm cup of coffee in her hands. She spotted Boden headed for the briefing room.
"Briefing room let's go." She said, leading the way. She took a seat in the front row between Kidd and Herrmann.
"Morning everyone. Just a few things this morning." Boden started.
"Firstly, 1st shift mentioned something about damaged equipment on trucks so Fuller if you could inventory that and get anything sent off for repairs that needs it." Boden told the lieutenant.
"First thing on the agenda, chief." Liv nodded.
"Secondly, the apparatus floor is due its monthly deep clean. Squad, I'd like you guys to start that and Truck can jump in and help after equipment checks."
"Copy that chief." Severide nodded.
"With Chase out for a few months on medical leave, we will have a floater on ambulance 67 until his return. Until Heidi returns from her furlough next shift, 67 will remain out of service whilst it's getting it service anyways." Boden explained. The sound of having a floater on the ambulance just really hit home how much Chase was going to be missed whilst he was recovering. Nobody knew exactly how long it would be until he was back on his feet.
"Lastly, as I'm sure Fuller had briefed you all, we have a ride along on a truck today so make him feel welcome." Boden finished, making Olivia smile. Just then the alarms sounded, calling ambulance 61 away.
"Everyone dismissed, have a good shift." Boden finished, picking up his clipboard from the table before he walked out of the room. Liv picked up her coffee and walked out of the room with the others. She pulled her phone from her pocket after it alerted her to a new message.
"Oo, ooo, ooo, he's here!" Olivia practically squealed as she put her coffee down and hurried outside. She got outside just in time to see Travis grabbing his bag out of the back of the taxi. She practically ran down the driveway to meet him.
"Hiiiii." She squealed as she flung her arms around her best friend, giving him a tight squeeze.
"How's Chase?" Travis asked Liv as they walked back towards the firehouse.
"Good. They removed the chest drain yesterday and they're talking about discharging him at the end of the week. I've already talked to Antonio and Chase is gonna come stay with us again until he's back on his feet. We're gonna shimmy a few bits around and temporarily turn the study into a bedroom so he doesn't have to worry about the stairs so much." Olivia explained as she slipped her hands into her pockets.
"That's good."
"Guys, you remember Travis. Travis, you remember Squad right?" Olivia asked as they stopped by the squad table.
"Of course, it's good to see you all again." Travis nodded. They had met many times before during his visits over the years since Liv had been at 51.
"Are you ready to see how we do things in Chicago?" She grinned as they walked through to the common room. Travis nodded. They said hello to the others.
"You can dump your bag in my locker." Olivia told Travis as she started guiding him towards the locker rooms. After storing his bags away, Olivia got everyone started on equipment checks. She went around with the paperwork and started marking out if anything was damaged, needed replacing or was missing etc as everyone started cleaning the compartments of the rig and making sure the equipment was where it was meant to be. She chatted to Travis as she worked.
"So how is everyone? What's the latest?" She asked her bestie.
"Well, it's looking like Andy's gonna be captain of 19." He told her. (In this book not everything is the same from the show).
"Really?! That's awesome! She was born for that role." Olivia said happy for her friend. If anyone was meant to be Captain of station 19, it was Andy Herrera.
