A few days later and another shift had gone by. The end of the shift couldn't come soon enough for Liv. She practically sat watching the clock as the minutes ticked by.
"What's got you all excited to get out of here?" Herrmann asked Olivia as he noticed her watching the clock.
"Chase is getting out of the hospital today. He found out last night." Olivia said happily.
"I've already cleared it with Boden and I'll be out next shift and then Heidi will be out the shift after just whilst he gets used to getting around by himself." Olivia explained.
"That's great news!" Herrmann said happily.
"Yep. It's going to be a good day." Olivia grinned.

Olivia's optimism was short-lived. Truck 81 had practically been called out right away and had been out of the firehouse ever since. Between calls, equipment checks and food breaks, everyone was exhausted. Early afternoon, truck 81 had just pulled back into the firehouse after attending a car accident, when the alarm sounded.

Truck 81, Ambulance 61,

Battalion 25, PD backup required.Shots fired atCaesar Park High School

"Urgh, everyone load up!" Liv shouted, barely having a chance to hop out of the truck before she was climbing back into it again.

It wasn't long before they were pulling up at the scene of the call out.
"What's the situation?" Boden asked the police officer who met them by their rigs.
"Matthew Billard is the student with the gun. From what we've managed to get from the students he released, Matthew shot Kyle after he hit Sammi, his ex who he still loves and wants to protect. From what we can make out, there's a teacher, Matthew and four other students still in the classroom. He released the other 12 students." The officer explained.
"He'a agreed to let in medics." The SWAT Sergeant said approaching Boden and the group. Olivia glanced at Heidi. She saw the flash of panic across her face.
"I'll go in." Olivia volunteered.
"I'll go." Casey stated.
"One more." The sergeant stated. Boden looked at his team.
"Kidd, Mouch, stay out here and help the medics with the other students. Gallo, you're with us." Casey instructed. There were going to be a lot of kids who were most likely in shock.
"Copy that Captain." Gallo nodded.
"Here, you'll need these." The sergeant said as an officer brought over three bullet proof vests for them to wear. Liv pulled off her turnout jacket and hung it on the truck before she pulled on the vest. She grabbed her cap from her pocket and pulled it on to keep her hair from her face. Gallo and Casey did the same. Gallo and Liv grabbed a med kit each as Casey grabbed the spinal board.
"You stay with us. Only move when we say to." The Sargent instructed that. They all nodded.
"You're the senior medic out of us, are you happy to take charge?" Casey asked Liv quietly as they were escorted to the classroom.
"Uh-huh." Liv nodded as she pulled on a pair of gloves. The team headed inside behind a team of officers.

Once they were inside, they peered into the room.
"Take is nice and slow." The police instructed the firefighter. They nodded.
"I'll go first." Liv stepped forward before anyone else.
"Hey Matthew, I'm Liv and this is Casey and Gallo..." Liv stepped into the room with her hands raised.
"Can we come in and help him? That's all we want to do." Liv pointed to the kid on the floor who had been shot and was bleeding badly. Matthew, the kid with the gun, looked nervously between Liv and the others and the students all huddled together on the other side of the room.
"Just you guys! No cops!" He shouted.
"No cops." Liv agreed. She walked over to the kid on the floor with Casey and Gallo.
"I'm Liv, what's your name?" Liv asked as she knelt on the floor and asked the kid who was holding pressure on the injured student's stomach.
"Kelley." The young girl let out a sob.
"Kelley, you've done a really good job alright? You can move your hands now." Liv instructed the teen as she got a trauma pad ready. Kelley removed her hands shakily and slid out of the way, joining the remaining kids in the classroom.
"What happened here?" Casey asked, looking at Matthew.
"He hit her." Matthew turned the gun back to a kid who was huddled in the corner alone.
"I didn't!!" The kid pleaded.
"You hit her and Kyle got in the way! It's his fault I shot him." Matthew said frantically. Liv got Gallo to take over.
"Okay, okay, alright. Just take a deep breath for me." She turned to face Matthew.
"Matthew, Kyle is hurt really badly alright, we need to get him out of here." Liv tried to reason with him.
"No! N-nobody goes anywhere." Matthew turned the gun to Liv but she didn't flinch. This wasn't the first time she had been in a situation like this.
"Okay, alright." Liv raised her hands to show she meant no harm.
"How about this, how about you let those guys out of here? Can you do that?" Liv proposed the idea.
"NO! He doesn't get to go anywhere." Matthew screamed.
"Matthew, those cops are going to come in here and take you down if you don't surrender. Do you get that? Do you know what that means?" Liv tried a different tac-tic. He looked like he was spiraling.
"I-I didn't meant to-"
"I know."
"I know you didn't mean to. Now's your chance to show that." Liv slowly stood up. Casey went to say something but she stopped him.
"I think you're scared. And I don't think you know what to do next." Liv slowly started walking towards Matthew. His hand was trembling and the gun was shaking.
"And I think that's okay. But this has to end and it has to end now." Liv looked the kid dead in the eyes.
"Give me the gun Matthew." She held out her hands.
"Don't make this any worse." She added. Matthew let out a sob. He hesitated and clearly thought about what to do before she slowly lowered the gun into Liv's hand. Once she had hold of it, she passed it back to Casey before she grabbed Matthew's arm and twisted it, pinning him against the wall.
"WE'RE CLEAR!!" She shouted, alerting the officers outside. They all swarmed into the room. Casey handed the gun over to one officer as Liv stepped back, letting them take Matthew into custody. She turned back to helping Kyle as a set of paramedics came in to take over.
"Nice work." Casey patted Liv on the shoulder as she stepped back to let the medics wheel Kyle outside.
"Uh-huh." She smiled and nodded as she pulled off her bloody gloves and chucked them on the floor with all the other discarded medical supplies.
"Come on guys, let's get you out of here." Gallo and the others started guiding everyone out of the room. Liv stepped forward and helped Kelley off of the floor. Walking out of the school, it was like everything was in slow motion. There were people everywhere. Cops scattered. Students crying. Parents trying to get closer to the school. The street was buzzing with noise. Olivia, who had her arm around Kelley, felt her tense up as they walked down the steps of the school. She led her away from the chaos and over to one of the ambos to get checked out. As she sat her down on the back step, she wrapped a blanket around her.
"You did good." Olivia told the teen as Heidi came over to check her out.
"Thank you." Kelley said quietly.
"Is Kyle going to be alright?" Kelley asked, wiping away some tears. Olivia looked at Heidi.
"He was taken to the hospital. He'll be okay." Heidi nodded. Olivia was glad to hear this.
"I'm going to leave you with Heidi alright? She'll look after you." Olivia told her teen. Kelley nodded before Olivia walked over to the others who were standing by the truck with Boden.
"Nice work today guys." He told his team. Olivia looked round at the others.
"PD have cleared us so we're free to go." Boden added.
"How the hell does Antonio wear these things all day?" Olivia moaned as she undid the velcro on the vest she was wearing and slipped it off. She was dripping with sweat and she had only been wearing it for an hour or so. Liv handed the vest back to one of the nearby officers along with Casey's and Gallo's. They all loaded up into the rigs and headed off back to the firehouse.
"Hey guys, hold up a second." Casey called out to his team as they unloaded from rigs.
"I just wanted to say good work today. I'm proud of you all." Casey praised his team.
"Casey's right. You were all amazing today." Liv added.
"And if anything hits you later on, please reach out. I'll have my phone on. Don't bottle anything up alright? Talk to someone, anyone." Olivia made sure her team knew they were all there for each other. It wasn't that long ago that Truck 81 had been held at gunpoint in the gym incident so both Liv and Casey knew their team might be affected bu today's events.
"Go get cleaned up." Casey dismissed his team.

The next morning as the end of shift rolled to an end, Olivia couldn't wait to get out of there. She was headed straight to the hospital with Heidi as Chase was getting discharged. As they walked into his room, Chase was sitting on the chair with his leg elevated, watching his ipad. Heidi went straight over to him as Olivia made a b-line for his empty bed.
"Urggh, what a day." Olivia groaned as she flung herself down onto Chase's bed.
"Busy shift?" He asked her once he greeted Heidi with a kiss before she sat down on the other chair.
"Not so much busy compared to long. We were called to a school shooting." Olivia explained.
"The one on the news?" He asked. Liv nodded.
"Kid held up a group of students in a classroom for like 2 hours. He shot one of his classmates. Me, Casey and Gallo went in as medics." Olivia explained.
"Jeez."
"Yeah, kids outside were freaked out, understandably." Heidi added.
"Yeah. Same school where the car park shooting happened last year. Poor kids." Olivia sighed. That was America. The thought that shootings like this happened everyday made her feel sick.
"Let's get you out of here bestie!" Olivia said happily. Chase couldn't help but laugh.

Later that day, Antonio arrived home. He let himself into the house and discarded his jacket and keys before he went to find Olivia.
"Babe?" He called out.
"In here!" Her voice called out from the study where Chase's room was. He made his way there. He laughed a little when he walked in to find Olivia sitting next to Chase on the bed, watching Harry Potter.
"Harry Potter, really?" He asked his wife.
"Can you believe he's never seen them all?!" Olivia asked in disbelief.
"Ooo, rookie mistake telling her that." Antonio joked.
"Yeah, learnt that pretty quick." Chase laughed.
"Oi!" Olivia laughed, shaking her head.
"How are you feeling?" Antonio asked Chase.
"Good to be out of the hospital." Chase responded, relieved. After being discharged earlier, Olivia and Heidi had gotten him back to Liv's house and got him settled. Heidi had stayed for a few hours before she went to get some sleep as she had a training class at the academy later that day. Chase had been chilling with Liv, watching movies, ever since.
"You guys hungry?" Antonio asked them. Liv grinned.
"You had no plans of cooking did you?" He asked his wife.
"None what-so-ever." Liv mumbled, showing him her phone screen which had the start of a pizza order on it.
"What do you want?" She asked him.
"My usual." He responded.
"I was going to meet up with some of the guys at Mollys. We finished early though so I thought I'd come home and see you first." Antonio told his wife.
"That's cool. I was planning on staying in with Chase tonight if that's okay?" She told him.
"Of course." He nodded.
"I'm gonna go jump in the shower then." He told her, stepping forward to give her a kiss before he left the room.
"Now back to the magic." Olivia said excitedly as she hit play on the movie.
