There is much to be said
about the state of the world.
As silence falls where truth goes unheard
Moments when the Earth cries out
to its people,
As its voice grows faint in a world so blurred.
What are we known for as humans?
Are we shaped by our ever-changing nature,
our greed, or our envy?
What would nature say
if it could grow a mouth?
We could speak of global warming,
the shifting economy,
inflation climbing like ivy,
how a gunshot to the head
is as normal as
The evening news that no longer embeds.
Why do we embrace darkness
as if it's the only thing that knows us?
As if the light will take from us
what we are unwilling to give?
We turn from the light,
And have somehow convinced ourselves
that we can be friends with the dark
Convinced ourselves
that darkness is all we are.
As if we do not ache
for a touch of the sun,
a whisper of morning light,
an embrace from
the hands that made the stars.
A lot can be said about the state of the world
But so little is said about the state of our hearts
So little a thing, but possesses a power so big.
