It was a crisp autumn evening at Hogwarts, and the air was filled with the excitement of the Quidditch season. The smell of pumpkin pasties lingered in the Great Hall, but you found yourself daydreaming about the upcoming match instead of concentrating on your meal. More specifically, your mind wandered to Oliver Wood, the charismatic captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He was focused and serious on the pitch, but off it, he had a warmth and charm that made your heart flutter.
After dinner, you made your way to the Quidditch pitch. As you stepped outside, the sky painted in hues of orange and purple, you spotted Oliver practicing with the team. He was a whirlwind, darting around on his broom, encouraging his teammates and perfecting his maneuvers. You settled onto the bleachers, a smile creeping onto your face as you watched him soar through the air.
Suddenly, a bludger ricocheted off a nearby goalpost, and Oliver swooped in to catch it, laughing as he turned to his teammates. Just then, he glanced over to where you were sitting and his face lit up with a broad grin.
"Y/N! Come on over!" he shouted, waving you over. Your heart raced at his invitation.
You made your way down to the pitch, trying to play it cool even though you could feel your cheeks heating up. "Hey, Oliver! Great practice today!"
"Thanks! But I could use a bit of your magic on the field. You've got a great eye for strategy!" he said, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "What do you think of our formations so far?"
"Well, I think you should let the chasers be a bit more flexible. You know, give them the freedom to improvise," you suggested, impressed with how he genuinely considered your input.
"Brilliant idea! I'll definitely bring that up at our next practice," he replied, his respect for your opinions clear.
As the other players finished up their drills and joined you both, Oliver turned serious for a moment. "Y/N, I've been meaning to ask you... would you like to come watch our next match? I could really use a lucky charm in the stands."
Your heart skipped a beat. "Of course! I'd love to cheer for you guys."
"Great! I'll make sure to get us some front-row seats," he said, his smile widening.
Feeling a surge of courage, you added, "Maybe after the match, we could grab a butterbeer in Hogsmeade? Just the two of us?"
"Really? I'd love that!" Oliver replied, his tone almost incredulous. "It's a date then!"
The words hung in the air for a moment, and the realization of what you both had just agreed to made your pulse quicken. Just then, one of the other players—Fred Weasley, you noted with a grin—called out, "Oi, Wood! Less flirting, more practicing!"
Oliver rolled his eyes, but you could see the tint of red creeping up his cheeks. "Ignore him. He's just jealous because his last date went terribly," he retorted, shooting you a playful wink.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a magical glow over the pitch, you felt a warmth in your chest that had nothing to do with the brisk fall air. This year, you thought, it wasn't just about the Quidditch matches or the thrill of flying; it was about the unexpected connection you were forming with Oliver Wood.
And you couldn't wait for the next match, the next moment, and the next fluttering feeling in your chest that came from being around him. After all, this was shaping up to be a very special season indeed.
