"This isn't going to work! We're too slow to outrun the forcefield!"

"They're gunning us down! We need to fight back!"

"Just keep running! If we get trapped here, we'll have no chance of finding Sensei!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Endless rounds of ammunition rained down on the fleeing students of Hoshino's group. Outrunning the rapidly enclosing dome was impossible--- some realized it was futile and chose to stand their ground, retaliating instead.

From the start, escape had been a near-impossible task. Hoshino and the other Abydos members had been positioned at the very center of the closing dome. If anyone had a real chance of making it out, it was those students who had been standing near the border before the dome was deployed.

But for Hoshino and the others, breaking free was a lost cause. Their only hope would have been some form of mobility tech--- something they didn't have.

And besides, Hoshino knew she couldn't leave the dome. Not when someone like Hina was inside. She had to be the one to face her.

No one else but her.

"Shiroko-chan! Use your drone to get out of here! We need at least one Abydos student out there looking for Sensei!"

"But I can't just leave you guys---"

"Shiroko-chan!"

The desperation in Hoshino's voice struck deep. Shiroko hesitated for only a moment before nodding, pulling out her remote control. Within seconds, her drone came blitzing toward them at high speed. With a swift motion, she leaped into the air, grabbing onto it as it carried her away.

"I'll be going ahead!"

That was the last thing Hoshino and the others saw of Shiroko's determined nod--- before she disappeared from sight.

"Good. At that speed, she's sure to make it out!" Nonomi sighed in relief.

"Go, Shiroko-senpai!" Serika yelled.

"Shiroko-senpai... please save Sensei..." softly spoke Ayane as she gripped her own chest.

A minute later, the dome fully closed, sealing off the battlefield. The majority of students from both Hina's and Hoshino's sides were trapped inside.

Less than 10% of Hoshino's forces had managed to escape. Hina's side fared even worse--- only a handful of students from her made it out, and those who did were the ones who had chased after the fleeing members of Hoshino's group.

"Nonomi-chan, on my right. Serika-chan, on my left. Ayane-chan, support us from behind," Hoshino ordered as she pulled her hair back into a ponytail.

"Roger that!" The three Abydos students responded in unison, their voices filled with confidence.

Before diving into battle, Hoshino took a moment to quietly assess the battlefield. Her forces and Hina's were locked in a relentless exchange of gunfire, neither side willing to back down. Determination burned in their eyes as bullets streaked across the war-torn field.

Yet, an unsettling feeling crept into Hoshino's mind. A nagging sense of unease she couldn't ignore.

Why was Hina's side keeping their distance?

By now, Hoshino had expected some students to break into close-quarters combat--- but none had. Both sides remained separated by nearly 50 meters, with not a single opponent daring to advance.

Was this part of Hina's plan?

What was she trying to do...?

Hoshino's mind raced as she struggled to make sense of the situation. But then---
