It was a bit chilly-a lazy but beautiful afternoon-as Wooyoung and I walked hand in hand, our fingers loosely intertwined, the world buzzing softly around us. Wooyoung bounced lightly with each step, his excitement infectious, and somehow, the city felt a little less chaotic with him by my side. I always loved that feeling, like we existed in our own little pocket of time.
Then suddenly-
"Oh my gosh, San! Look!"
Before I could process what was happening, Wooyoung let go of my hand and practically darted toward a tiny bundle of white fluff curled up near a lamppost. I blinked, trying to catch up, before following him to see what had stolen his heart this time.
Nestled against the cold pavement was a shivering little puppy, all floppy ears and big, curious eyes.
Wooyoung crouched down instantly, his hands reaching out but hesitating. "Hi, baby~ what are you doing here all alone?" he cooed, his voice soft and gentle. The puppy tilted its head, sniffing cautiously before stepping forward, pressing its tiny nose against Wooyoung's outstretched fingers.
I swear, I had never seen Wooyoung's face light up like that before. His entire body buzzed with excitement as the puppy wagged its tail and nuzzled into his palm, letting out soft, whiny noises.
"Oh, San," he breathed, glancing up at me with that look-the one that meant I had already lost. "Look at him! Poor little baby~"
I knelt beside him, watching as the puppy let out a tiny yap before clumsily climbing into Wooyoung's lap. My heart did that stupid thing where it stuttered, because how was I supposed to handle this much cuteness at once?
Wooyoung laughed, scratching behind the puppy's ears. "I think he likes me," he said, beaming.
I chuckled, shaking my head fondly. "Of course, he does. You have that effect on all living things, Young-ah."
Wooyoung turned to me, lower lip jutting out in an exaggerated pout. "Sanni, can we keep him? Pweaaseee~"
I pretended to think about it, watching as the puppy snuggled into Wooyoung's arms, its tiny pink tongue flicking out clumsily in an attempt to show affection. Wooyoung's fingers combed gently through its tangled fur, like he had already claimed him as his own. Like he was ready to be his dad for life.
"Do I even have a choice at this point, hmm?" I teased, crossing my arms.
"I know you wouldn't say no to these faces," he grinned, pressing his cheek against the puppy's. He blinked up at me, lips forming the tiniest pout. The puppy let out a perfectly timed whimper, and that was it. My heart was done for.
I sighed dramatically. "Fine. But you have to be responsible. Walk him, feed him, train him-"
"Deal! Thank you so much, baby!!" Wooyoung cut me off before I could finish, bouncing slightly as he pressed a quick, excited kiss to my lips.
