KITTY FELT HERSELF WAKING UP when the light streamed in through her thin curtains, which she forgot to close the night before. Her body felt warm and relaxed as she let out a sigh of comfort. As she gained consciousness, she felt a warm body pressed up tight behind her. A strong arm thrown around her waist. The feeling of someone's breath fanning over the back of her neck.
A small smile appeared on Kitty's face as she recounted the previous night. It was a night full of passion, laughter and warmth. A night full of nothing but happiness. The matching grins on their faces were permanently etched, making their cheeks ache but they didn't care, it was all worth it because the happiness they felt when together alone under the covers, was a form of happiness that neither of them had experienced in a very, very long time.
But the happiness bubble needed to be burst. She reached over to grab her phone and check the time, sighing when she realised that her alarms were literally about to go off. She turned them off before they could and reluctantly moved out of Richie's grip. Turning to her side to face him.
He was still fast asleep.
A look of peace on his face.
A ghost of a smile resting on his lips.
She couldn't help but feel content and safe in that moment. Snuggled in Richard Jerimovich's arms. Her hand reached up to his face. Her fingertips were the ghost of a touch on his stubbled cheek. But he responded instantly. Still asleep, he dug his face closer to her touch. Closer to her warmth.
She had never seen him looking so peaceful.
The frown lines on his forehead were smoothed out, giving him a more younger looking face. The stress no longer weighing on his shoulders. No worry about the restaurant, his daughter, or life in general shown on his face. She hated that she would need to break that, but she knew that they needed to get to The Bear, she knew that things wouldn't go smoothly today, not after what had happened yesterday with the HVAC not working and the mess that Richie had unintentionally put them in.
Kitty shook him awake. But at first it didn't work. Instead he snuggled deeper into her. Pressing her body closer to his. She couldn't help but let out an overjoyed laugh. Something that caused him to finally open his eyes in disbelief.
Part of him had thought that this was all a dream.
That there was no way last night had happened and no way that he was waking up right next to Katie Fak. Both of them unclothed and pressed up close.
