KITTY HEARD RICHIE'S HEAVY FOOTSTEPS behind her, coming into his kitchen where she was plating up some leftover pizza. She briefly glanced over her shoulder, watching as he entered the room with a soft smile on his face.
"She's asleep," He stated, having just put Eva down for the night.
The three of them had spend the whole day together and Kitty couldn't get over the feeling deep in her heart. They felt like a family. A weird, messy family, but a family nevertheless.
She wasn't entirely sure what was making her feel that way – whether it was the hormones swirling around inside of her or the conversation she had with Sugar a few days prior about how much she thought about her baby boy she never got to meet. But she couldn't stop picturing her, Richie and Eva as a little trio, her mind going to places before she could stop it, wondering what it would be like if Richie and her had their own kid, because as much as Eva was part of the family in Kitty's eyes, she would never be able to replace her mother – and she didn't want to, but spending time with the young girl had made her feel maternal, and she couldn't decide if she liked it or despised it.
Richie came over to stand behind her. Silently wrapping his arms around her waist and placing his head on her shoulder, kissing an exposed part of her skin from where her shirt slightly fell. Kitty closed her eyes momentarily, enjoying the moment as she tucked herself deeper into Richie's chest. Feeling his body warmth spreading around her.
She felt safe with him. Loved. Cared for. Cherished. All the opposite feeling she had felt whenever Ben was around her. She hadn't even realised until Richie came along how often she would flinch when someone came too close. How it seemed like a reflex. And when she really thought about it, she could remember how queasy and at unease she'd feel whenever Ben would wrap his arms around her, her heart beating rapidly in her chest – and not from love or the comforting feeling of closeness, but from fear. And it hadn't been until now that she realised how long she had spend living her life in fear with the man that was supposed to have loved her.
But now she felt genuine love.
Now she knew how it should have felt back then and she couldn't help but get drunk off of the feeling that Richie provided her with.
She felt him sigh into her shoulder, his body tightening ever so slightly.
Kitty looked over her shoulder at him, his eyes weren't looking in her direction and instead he was staring straight ahead at the wall opposite them. His brows furrowed as he gnawed on his bottom lip, deep in thought about something that was causing an array of emotions to swim through his eyes.
