Emma heard the glass break followed by a cute little, "Shit."
She laughed lightly as she walked into the kitchen to see a panicked three-year-old surrounded by broken glass and chocolate milk. She hobbled over to him and picked him up, groaning at the strain on her knee. "That was a VERY naughty word." She whispered to the little boy, setting him on the counter top.
"Sorry Sissy." Niko said, bowing his head.
"I'm not mad, but don't let Momma and Daddy hear you speak like that."
"Okay..."
"Were you supposed to be getting this?" She asked, knowing that a sweet treat was not often given in the middle of the day like this.
Niko started crying at that. "No!"
"Shh...I will tell Momma I did it." Emma said.
"You get a spankin?" Niko asked, his tears stopping.
Emma shrugged. "I don't know." They hadn't punished her at all since she had been out of the hospital. She had been expecting a big spanking and to lose her door after this last stunt, as her parents so fondly referred to it. Nothing had happened though. She knew her mouth had been sassy and there had been a few times she had refused to do chores or threw a fit before going to physical therapy or therapy and they hadn't done anything. The only time that Hunter's tone had even been slightly irritated with her was when she said she didn't want to call her parents and he had told her that if she didn't 3 times a week then they would take her, so she didn't have a choice. It had quickly become her least favorite moments of the week.
"Sorry." He said again.
"It's okay, Wubbs." She handed him a paper towel to dry his face, and then went to get a broom and dust pan to get the glass up.
"What happened?" Amy asked coming into the room.
"I was grabbing chocolate milk for me and Niko and dropped the glass and milk, sorry." Emma said.
"You wanted chocolate milk?" Amy asked skeptically. She had never known the girl to desire the drink.
"Niko said he wanted some and it sounded good." Emma lied smoothly.
"Hmm...I feel like you both know to ask for sweets." Amy said.
"It was milk. Are you going to tell me I can't eat or drink something?" Emma asked. She had started drinking energy drinks recently, and knew that was driving her Momma crazy, but Hunter had told Amy to leave her be.
"Listen little miss you do not run this house, you are lucky your daddy wasn't here to hear that. Also while we do want you eating, we want you feeding your body nutrients not a bunch of sugar." Amy scolded. "Did you pick your brother up?"
