Looking up at the building, Chuuya's lips curved into a soft smile. It has already been a week after his test & he was already liking the environment of his new workplace. Although he misses some of his colleagues back in the Port, this is the life he truly wanted. To save & protect people. To be able to help those in need- especially the kids, without needing to worry much for their safety compared to when he was in the mafia.
Stepping foot into the café below the ADA office, the smell of freshly brewed coffee greeted him, alongside a familiar back, sitting at a booth who was seemingly joting down something. Chuuya smiled before creeping up towards the figure. Though, as if the figure could sense him, the person reacted quickly, right hand holding firmly onto Chuuya's wrist, before pulling the petite male forwards. This action almost made Chuuya fall over but he managed to stop himself by grabbing onto the head of the booth.
"Good morning, Nakahara."
Greeted the person as he shut his notebook and turned to look at his colleague with a smile. Chuuya frowned as he takes his wrist out from the male's grasp before settling himself beside the man.
"Yeah, mornin'. And for the last time, it's Chuuya, glasses. We're partners so drop the formalities would you?"
The strawberry blond grumbled as he called for the waitress to order his drink. His partner pushed his glasses up before giving a short chuckle.
"It's only been a week & we barely know each other yet."
Picking up his coffee, he answered before taking a sip. Chuuya rolled his eyes at the man's answer.
"Fine, fine. Whatever floats your boat, Kunikida."
Placing his fedora on the table, Chuuya leaned back, shutting his eyes as he waited for his drink. Kunikida eyed his partner.
Not realizing that his gaze lingered longer than he anticipated, the sound of an annoyingly loud & long slurp brought him back to his senses. Snapping his head to see who it was coming from, there he saw Ranpo, slurping his drink painfully slow as he stared intently at the pair. His attention more so to his young friend who had been openly admiring his partner.
As the sound continued, Chuuya gritted his teeth before slamming his fist on the table.
"Can't I get a quick shut eye in peace?!"
He growled before locking eyes with the detective in front of him. Ranpo paused for a few seconds before taking another quick short sip of his drink, making the ex-mafioso's eye twitch. Lunging forward to snatch the drink away from his colleague, he was stopped by a hand grabbing on his waist. Startled at the sudden touch, he looked back to see Kunikida shaking his head.
"Let him be, Nakahara. Oh, and please show some respect for someone who's older than you?"
Voiced the blonde while Chuuya retreated back to his original position.
"Tsk. Whatever you say Doppo."
"Mhm...no sappy office romance in front of my salad, thanks!"
Whined the older detective who was then happily eating a cake that a waitress had recently given. Chuuya's coffee had also arrived as he took a sip.
"You don't eat salad, you sweet-toothed detective."
Sassed Chuuya who stabbed a fork into a strawberry that was in Kunikida's fruit salad. Kunikida side-eyed him for casually eating his food but did nothing. Ranpo tilted his head.
"It's a figure of speech, Mr Fancy hat. Not literal."
"I'M NOT STUPID!"
"I didn't say that though?"
Ranpo smiled, pointing his fork towards a growling Chuuya. Kunikida held back his laugh as Chuuya reminded him of an angry Chihuahua.
"Alright, that's enough. Ranpo-San, it's best you go to the office first. President wants to speak to-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Ranpo was already on his feet to see his dad- President. Chuuya blinked questioningly while Kunikida simply sighed.
"That's one way to get rid of him,"
"No, the president actually needed to have a word with him."
"Oh, well..."
Chuuya was about to say something before he was interuptted by a strong presence. The two paused, knowing immediately who it was. Eyeing the corner of the far table in the café, they saw a man, holding up a newspaper, glancing at them every now and then. Said man did not register that the two knew he was there. The two looked at each other before Chuuya sighed loudly, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Dad, we know that's you..."
The male flinched before sheepishly putting the newspaper down as the two walked up to his table. A nervous grin plastered on his face as he scratched the back of his head.
"Heyyyy, boysss. A bright sunny day, isn't it?"
"...it's cloudy. What're you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at home enjoying retirement life?"
Chuuya questioned the former detective with his hand on his hips. Eyes filled with worry.
"I'm sorry my boy. I was just curious if you got along well with your colleagues..."
Murase meekly replied. Sighing, Chuuya gave him a reassuring smile. Kunikida noted at how adorable he looked with a smile. Murase noticed how the taller stared at his son.
"I'm getting along just fine, dad."
"Yes, you don't have to worry. Your son is in safe hands, Detective."
Smiling, Kunikida casually placed his hand on Chuuya's shoulder, as if it belonged there. Chuuya eyed Kunikida questioningly but didn't utter a word. Only nodding in response to his partner's words. Murase smiled before giving a loud dad laugh.
"HAHAHA! Of course! I shouldn't worry. It's the Armed Detective Agency afterall...but, you know me. I get too worked up if my boy doesn't speak up about his day and all that jazz, haha..."
His smile faltered slightly before clearing his throat & straightening his back.
"Well! I'll be off then! Call me once you're done son! We're eating out for dinner today!"
Chuuya smiled shyly when Murase patted him on the head as he made his way out the café without needing to hear an answer from Chuuya. Kunikida smiled at the father-son duo. Even though they are not related, to see such a familial bond from the two warmed his heart. Found family is truly a treasure to keep. Noticing the silence, Chuuya looked to his side, seeing that Kunikida was lost in thought.
"Oi, Kunikida. Stop daydreaming will ya? Don't we have work to do?"
"Ah, right, of course!"
Chuuya snickered at the male's response as he cleared his throat before walking up to the office first.
"What a funny guy..."
Smiling, he had a thought that working with him would be entertaining. If anything, Chuuya is looking forward to more days working with the agency as it reminded him of The Flags. As bittersweet as that is, Chuuya hopes that they'd be proud of him.
