I was falling down an inky black hole. Darkness surrounded me and ghost hands reached for me. I screamed, until I realized that it was just a dream-and hopefully a memory soon. The darkness swallowed me up and spit me out. I was at the air temple again. I had been learning air in my dreams ever since I meditated. It was like a doorway opened for me to get my memories back. In this memory-dream I was eleven years old, and I was sitting with an old man-the one that was the statute in front of the temple-on a balcony overlooking the garden.I crossed my arms over my chest and put my lips out in a pout. The old man leaned towards me with a sad smile on his face. "He will come back soon enough, I know it."
I looked up at him and wiped a tear from my eye. "How do you know monk Gyatso?" So that was his name.
"I know because I am very wise." My eyes glinted mischievously and a small smile appeared on my face.
"As wise as you are old!" He laughed and I grinned.
"That I am. Now will you help me with these cakes?" I giggled and nodded. We got in our stances and drew our hands to our sides, creating large balls of air, and then we threw the balls of air at the cakes, launching them off of the balcony onto more old people down below.
"Your aim has improved greatly my young pupil!"
A/N- I know that's Aangs memory but I needed Kaori to remember Gyatso
I woke up to the sound of footsteps echoing down the halls. Who could be here? Probably just some animal...or it could be everybody who left! I had to go see if it was them. I couldn't just sit here on the chance that it was just some random hawk-goose! I quickly got off the bed, and after grabbing my staff I headed down the corridors as silent as a mole-mouse.
I crept down the halls until I could hear voices. "The key Sokka, is airbending!" I stopped creeping. I realized where we were and held back a gasp. The door that wouldn't open! They were going to open it? Then they must be airbenders! I thought. That means they didn't leave forever, they probably just went on vacation for a little bit and left me home because I was sleeping. My insides danced with joy and I nearly burst with happiness. Maybe these people could tell me who I really was!
I was about to turn the corner and greet them when one of them said, "Quick, firenation! Get down!" I stopped again and put my back against the wall. My heart was now pounding, and not for a good reason. Either someone bad was here, or they thought I was bad!
My heart slowed down after a few calming breaths when a voice student called out again, "Dinner!" My heart went into overdrive. They were going to eat me?! I couldn't just sit here and wait to be gobbled up, I had to do something! I leapt up from my spot by the wall and started running down a corridor. At the end of it was a balcony. If I could just reach it-
"Hey!" A voice called out. It was the same one that talked about airbending earlier. I ran even faster, my legs pumping to keep up, but I heard footsteps behind me. I don't want to be food! I quickly made a ball off air beneath me and rode it down the hallway. I was so close! A sudden gust of wind blew at me from behind, making me lose concentration on keeping the ball the right size. I fell forward, my hands spinning wildly, until I hit the ground. I rolled and came to a stop just before the balcony.
I buried my face in my arms and began to cry. I didn't want to be food! I heard footsteps coming towards me, but then they stopped. All you could hear was the sound of my muffled sobbing as I cried into my arms. I was getting serious Deja-vu from this moment. I peeked out from my arms and took a couple of shuddering breaths, wondering why I wasn't eaten yet, and saw two kids standing there with their mouths hanging open. I sniffeled and rubbed my eyes on my sleeve. The farthest one back was a boy with a ponytail and blue clothes, and the closest boy to me was wearing my color of clothes. He had a bald head and blue arrows all over his body.
"Please don't eat me." My voice came out small and shaky. The ponytail guy narrowed his eyebrows in confusion while the boy closest to me had a look of shock on his face. Ponytail spoke up first. "Why would we eat you?" He sounded genuinely confused. I peeked my entire head out. "You said I was dinner!" My voice came out stronger this time. Ponytail laughed. "That wasn't about you! And who are you anyway?"
My eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Then why were you chasing me?" I challenged. Ponytail threw his hands up in the air. "We were chasing the flying lemur!" As if on cue, a lemur hopped past and flew out into the crisp skies. The boy shook his head and I remembered that there was another boy here. I looked over at the tattoo boy and had a tickle in the ball of my head as if my brain was trying to tell me something.
"What are you standing there for Aang? You okay? You know I wasn't actually going to eat the lemur right?" I did a double take. "Wait, Aang?" I got up from the floor and grabbed my staff from the ground. Aang was looking at me with a mix of emotions. "Is it really you?" He blinked a couple of times before murmuring, "Kaori?" My eyes widened and I squealed. Ponytail spoke up again, "You know her?!" I jumped up and down with excitement. "That's my name, you know my name! Do you know anything else about me, and can you tell me where everybody went? It wasn't very nice of you to leave without telling me!" I stomped my foot for emphasis. He looked shocked.
"What are you taking about? I told you I was leaving...how did you survive?" I stopped jumping up and down. "I...I woke up a couple of days ago. I remember you and Gyatso, and I remember these people moving their hands and so I did it, and guess what? I can move air!"
A/N-Kaori might sound like she's rambling or doesn't make sense, but that's because she's a little kid and is always really excitedPonytail guy looked shocked. Aang looked scared. "What do you mean you woke up...and you remember...do you remember me?" He sounded scared. I had to make him understand that I still sorta knew will he was.
"I remember greeting hurt and you helping me...and I remember throwing cakes! Oh, and I remember people screaming and crying then nothing." I smiled, proud that I was able to remember that much. "And I know I'm...ummm...eleven. Brown hair, brown-grey eyes, and I live here." I giggled. How silly to think they were going to eat me! Ponytail looked quite shocked and Aang looked like he was going to bee sick.
A girl walked towards us with her eyes concentrating on her hands. In than she held a little flying lemur. "Hey Aang, Sokka, you wouldn't believe what I caught!" She looked up, confused as to why the boys didn't answer her. Her eyes met mine and she gasped. "Another Airbender!" I gripped my staff tighter. Why were they all so surprised?
I looked at Aang again. I was beginning to get a little scared. "Aang?" My voice came out small again. I wrapped my arms around myself for comfort, but winced when my hand brushed against a long cut on my side. Ow, that hurts. Everybody was just standing and starting at me. I felt like I was some sort of animal on display. My eyes started to tear up again. "Aang?" My voice broke this time. He rushed forwards and pulled me close to him, hugging me. I hugged him back, my staff still in my hand and I cried.
"I thought I was the only one left." He whispered. "Why?" I whispered back. He hugged me harder and didn't answer. But I was okay with that. Because even though I didn't remember much, I remembered Aang and how he always cared for me no matter what. And now that I had him back I was never letting go.
