It had become dark by the time we got together to tell everyone what had happened. Katara was so upset to find out her brother was gone. Aang tried to talk to her, but she ran away...and he followed.
It's been an hour or so since they left, and all these dumb villagers do is talk and ask questions. 'What do you bend?' or, 'When do you think you can defeat the fire Lord?' and even dumber ones like, 'Why don't you go into the spirit world to find the spirit that stole your friend?'...actually I think the last one was a good idea...
I sat down and began to mediate, calming myself and focusing my breathing. A little while later I huffed in annoyance and opened my eyes. Nothing was happening-I was still in the human world.
I got up and dusted off my orange tunic. I looked up to see Katara coming back from running off with Aang. I ran up to her.
"Katara! It's been forever since I've seen you! Where is Aang?" I kept jumping up and down with excitement. She ignored me and walked past, towards Appa. Well that was rude.
She picked up some apples from our food bag and began feeding them to Appa. Hey, I liked those apples!
"Katara, are you mad at me? I don't think I was mean to you or anything..." I trailed off. Geez, what the hay could've gotten her so worked up? Then I remembered her brother was taken by a giant black and white spirit monster, and I shut my mouth.
Oops on my part.
"I'll just come back later..." I nodded to her back and walked towards the woods, humming an old airbender tune.
The light from the sun started glowing everywhere and I realized it was already dawn. And then I came to another startling conclusion. I hadn't gotten almost any sleep.
I glanced at the woods one last time before I turned to go back to the village.
Meditation hasn't worked, Aang wasn't here, Sokka was missing, Katara wouldn't talk to me...
Frustrated tears came to my eyes, but I blinked them away. And then I heard the bushes rustling behind me.
My hands moved quickly, pushing a stream of air out in front of me-except nothing came out. I couldn't bend. I tried again, and the same thing happened. Did I lose my bending?
The thing from the bushes jumped out at me and I squealed like the little girl I was. It tackled me to the ground, and I smacked my head against a rock.
Everything was swimming in front of me. It felt like I was underwater while flying, upside-down. Trippy, I know. I tried taking but my tongue was a useless lump in my mouth. Stars danced across my vision, but I could make out a boy. He seemed to be a little older than me. And just between you and me, he looked gorgeous-at least from my blurry vision point of view.
"I've finally got you. And nobody will take you from me again." The boy smiled and titled back his head, laughing.
I felt myself sinking into darkness, and with one last bust of energy, I tried to connect to Aang.
Aang, if you can hear me I need help. I'm by the woods. There's this guy here. I can't bend either...I think I lost my bending. Please come quick!
I skipped back, exhausted. Now all I could do was wait and hope he got my message. I slowly sunk into darkness, but all that was on my mind was the fact that I may never see Sokka again.
