TIMESTAMP: Present, Act I.
Luna was helping James and the others outline a plan when her breath caught in her throat. "Something's wrong." Affliction laced her words as she raised a hand to her heart.
"What's going on?" Bucky rushed to her side, trying to understand the situation. But as soon as he touched Luna's arm, he felt a painful burn. "Ow! What the hell!"
"Katherine won't make it to the execution," Luna whispered, her eyelids slowly drifting shut. "Her powers... they're disappearing."
"We know that, but we're going to save her, right?" Sam asked, worry etched on his face.
"How can you feel all this?" Sharon asked, confused yet curious. "Do you have a special connection?"
"I was meant to protect her." A heavy silence settled over the group, bringing with it a deep sense of despair. "Listen, I... What I did... it wasn't supposed to end up like this." She whispered, catching Bucky's attention. "She said she only wanted revenge on Valentina. I made her promise she wouldn't touch Katherine."
"You set her free?" Sam asked, urgency in his voice before Bucky could react, knowing that his friend would respond explosively. "You just... believed she would keep her promise?"
"We made a blood pact. I would set her free, and she would leave Katherine alone," Luna replied.
"Do you realize what you've done? You betrayed Katherine. I don't care what your intentions were, but you need to find a way to locate them. I don't care what it takes; you're going to save Katherine, even if I have to sacrifice you myself." Bucky said resolutely, clenching his jaw.
"Bucky." Sharon said softly, but Sam shook his head and motioned for her to remain quiet. He understood that Bucky meant every word and, in some ways, was correct.
"You better start that spell and explain why Lady Whispers is after Katherine," Bucky warned, his temper starting to simmer down.
"In a family of witches, there is always more than one prophecy. Kai was meant to take over Lady Whispers' empire; she was destined to rule the Underworld, even if she didn't know it."
"So, either way, she would lose the fight against Lady Whispers?" Bucky tilted his head, clenching his jaw again.
"Why didn't you tell her about that prophecy? If she knew, things could have been very different," Sharon interjected, taking charge of the conversation as Bucky began to struggle to hold himself together.
"All I did was protect her. It was my duty and I—"
"All you did was sentence Katherine to death!" Bucky snapped, throwing a chair against the wall. "You betrayed her, over and over again, and right now, we're running out of time to save her!" His voice echoed in the room, and it took a moment for him to calm down and regain his composure.
"We'll save her, Buck." Sam whispered, placing a reassuring hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Listen to me very carefully, Luna." Bucky began, trying to maintain his calm. "If something happens to her..."
"You don't have to finish that sentence, James. I know what you're going to say, and I agree." Luna said firmly, understanding his concern. "Try to contact the government facility where she is while I prepare to locate Lady Whispers."
