TIME STAMP: PAST, 1820
Who's a heretic now?
Am I making sense?
How can you make it stick?
Waiting 'til the beat comes out
Who's a heretic, child?
Can you make it stick, now?
And I'm on trial
Waiting 'til the beat comes out
Katherine's eyes rolled back as she tried to complete the spell independently. Lady Whispers, as the elderly woman was called, had no idea that Katherine was trying something so powerful and with so much revenge on her heart, otherwise, she'd be hung or worse, burnt.
After losing her mother to witchcraft, Katherine searched for other witches who could help her get in control of her power. Still, it wasn't easy when she couldn't publicly announce that she was looking for powerful women.
It had been over 10 years since Katherine heard her mother's prophecy and it had been the same time since Katherine promised her, on her deathbed, that she wouldn't stop until she found a way to save her mother.
"Mother, please. Please don't leave me like this. I have no control over my power and no one else except for you." Katherine cried, trying to take over magic in a way she didn't know was possible.
"My dearest Kai." Her mother smiled weakly, pressing a hand against her daughter's cheek. "You'll have to find someone to help you. I've done my time in this world."
"Mama, please."
"Always remember, my sweet angel. Women like us are cursed for eternity. As long as you live, you'll have to face atrocities." Katherine's mother was closing her eyes slowly as the girl's crying intensified. "The women in our family were all witches as you know. We were all doomed to the same. If we're ever to die, it will be in the hands of the person we love the most. I am dying to this moment because the woman I loved for years has cast a spell on me."
"Tell me her name, please mother. I'll avenge you." Katherine's begged.
"She's known as Lady Whispers."
Katherine's eyes were covered in blood as she reached the maximum strength she had in her uncontrolled mind. Feeling dizzy and losing her senses, Katherine felt her body be transferred somewhere else. Suddenly, her senses were back on, but she wasn't at the original place. A dark and devasted world was presented in front of her – blood covering up all the walls and thousands of bodies pilling up on the ground, the smell intensely hitting her nostrils.
"What the hell is this place?" She asked no one in particular, trying to find a way out.
"This will happen if you go on with the spell to bring your mother back." A woman said, appearing close to her. "You didn't though I wouldn't know, did you, young lady?"
"You killed my mother." Katherine's voice broke down.
"She was a traitor to the cause." Lady Whispers rolled her eyes.
"My mother wanted to protect me from your devilish ways and even then, she still loved you."
"Well, wasn't love what got every witch of your family killed?" She smiled. "Break the spell, Katherine, or this will be your mother's new reality. Her beloved child slaughtered the world to get mommy back." Lady Whispers pouted, teasing.
"My name is Kai, and I will avenge my mother."
Neither Lady Whispers nor Kai could have guessed what came next. They were back to the real world and a giant storm was happening in the middle of the room surrounding both of them. There was a saying that the most powerful witches could control the weather with their emotions, but Lady Whispers had never seen anything like that. And neither had Kai – there was a lot of fear in the elderly woman's eyes.
"Katherine, you need to stop this!" The woman screamed but Kai wasn't even there mentally – she was reliving the memory of her mother dying in her arms. "If you kill me, you're dooming us all."
"You killed thousands of witches because they didn't follow your evil path." Kai's mind was spiraling, representing the storm present between them. "Between those witches were your children, your coven, your lovers, everyone!"
"I did what I had to do to protect myself. You would never understand, young lady."
"You're right, I wouldn't, but I know about revenge. You taught me that. Aren't you feeling proud, Lady Whispers? You're going to die because I succumbed to evil. You took me under your wing, pretended you didn't know me, and look at you now – dealing with the ultimate betrayal."
Kai finally laughed in despair and then she took a deep breath. There was so much power emerging from her body that she couldn't even begin to deal with it. The whole room was crashing around them and as Kai looked deeper into Lady Whispers, the woman started to grab her chest in agony and breaking heavily.
"Katherine -please. I'm begging you."
Suddenly, a hand movement from Kai and Lady Whispers got swallowed into the ground, as flames emerged from the place, burning her whole body. "Are you?"
