"Looking at looking at looking at me, look at that look at how that looking at me," - Wale ft. Lady Gaga

"This is where you guys have been living?" Brianne asked Alex in disgust.

"Well sorry we couldn't compliment your living style, but this is all we have at the moment," Alex replied hastily.

After everyone was settled, Brianne, Ross and I explained the whole story, from when I disappeared to now.

We also explained to them how we think my father is the root of our problems.

"And I guess that with all that's going on, we could blame him for the kidnappings too," I said hesitantly.

"Are you sure you want to accuse your father of that, Ray? Because that's a huge accusation," Jaxon asked.

"Well if he would do those kinds of things to his spouse, what makes you think that he wouldn't do that to a few people that he knows nothing about?" I asked no one in particular.

"She has a point," Jessie shrugged, "but until we have proof, we can't do shit."

"Why the hell not?" Hanna asked.

"Because without proof, we have no leverage," Brianne said in a 'duh' tone.

"Innocent until proven guilty," Alex announced.

We were all silent after that, but in my mind there couldn't be more noise.

************

"Hey, Ray? Can I talk to you?" Ross asked me as he entered the family room.

Everyone else was either asleep, or went out with Brianne for some groceries.

But for some reason I couldn't fall asleep, and I sure as hell wasn't in the mood for grocery shopping.

"Yeah, sure." I told him softly.

He sighed before speaking to me slowly, "Look. I know that I haven't been with your for a long time, and I realized just recently that I know absolutely nothing about you,"

"So... ?" I raised one eyebrow.

"So... I want to know you better. Tell me something about you, anything. I know that I can't take back all the years that we missed out on together, but we can new memories and--"

"Be brother and sister again?" I finished.

"Yeah," he smiled softly, "be brother and sister again.

After that, we bonded over watching Shark Boy and Lava Girl and eating two tubs of
Ben & Jerry's Vanilla ice cream.

"Hey, Ray. Can I ask you somethin'?" Ross asked slowly.

"Shoot." I replied, my eyes still glued to the television.

"After everything that's been going on with mom and dad and... our family really. Do you think that it was dad who shot out moms legs?"

My head whipped around so fast I could feel my neck crack slightly, "You think dad did that?" I asked.

"Well," he thought for a moment, "Maybe. I mean if he really went through all of this for us to stay away from her. Maybe he did that so she would stay away from us."

By now my full attention was on Ross, "So what are you implying?"

He shrugged, "That our mom is our mom, right? And that even if dad threatened us to stay away from mom, what about her staying away from us? What if he shot out her knees as a threat, a warning? What if he did that so that she could stay away, and told her that if she ever tried to contact us, he would do much worse?"
